First deer with a bow on 11/1/03!!!
Well, after 3 years and a few misses, I finally got my first one with a bow on Saturday morning. I wish I had a pic, but I forgot the camera. May post a pic of my arrow later. Here are the details.
I am sitting on one of our road ways that we have planted with a fall mix for a small food plot. I think I spooked off a buck around 9:00 am, but that is another story. Around 9:50 am, I here some rustling in the leaves to my left. A few seconds later she appears, and begins nibbling on some rye is in the food plot. I had some limbs blocking a good shot from where she entered the field so I had to wait her out. She finally started moving in the direction I need to get a shot and then she turned and started walking away. Well, at about 20 yards she turned a little left and presented me with a shot on the vitals. I shoot, she hunched up makes a horrible bellow and runs off. I watch to see where she runs and then hear a crash. She gets up runs a little more and then a final crash. I start to look at my arrow, and the first thing I notice is I do not see any definite signs of blood on the white and yellow fletchings. The arrow is also turned perpendicular to the shot direction. I get down from my stand and go to check on the arrow. There is blood on the arrow but not what I would have considered good blood. However, on the ground I can see some darker colored blood, which with my shot angle and entry point would indicate a liver shot. I pack up my stand becuase we are only going to hunt the morning and get all my stuff together before I begin to look for the deer. I knew where I heard the last crash but I wanted to track the blood sign. Needless to say it would have been easier for me to just go to where I think the deer is because I was fixing to walk through the " briars and brambles" as they say. About 10 yards into tracking I get a pinker lung blood to track which is definitely a good sign to me. Well to make a short story shorter, I found her piled up about 50 yards from where I shot her exactly where I thought she would be. Back to the lack of sign on the arrow. Entry was about middle of the rib cage, with the exit being under the front shoulder. The arrow went through and exited her front leg, which explained the odd angle of how the arrow was sticking in the ground and the lack of blood on the arrow, as it was pretty much wiped off after going through her leg. As well, I think Muzzy should change their slogan from " Bad to the Bone" to " Bad through the Bone" . The Muzzy hit home and did the job plus some. Sorry for rambling but I was more than thrilled to finally get my first deer with a bow. Now to try and get that buck. |

Tabby,
I love my LX. I had a hard time giving up my MQ1 for it, but it is a very good bow. It holds very steady and plenty enough power, all with a good quiet release. |
