Okay here is my situation. I have 4 weeks of vacation starting Thursday so I will have off the entire month of November. I already have done my home work and have 6 stands set in one of the (4) bow hunting only counties here in West Virginia. I am hunting a mature buck and nothing else. I have already harvested 2 deer so it' s P&Y from here on or nothing. Everything was falling together (I even have a deer cam picture of the buck using the funnel that I am hunting during daylight hours). Well that was before I checked the weather forecast. The next 5 days are forecasted to be the highs in the mid 70' s and low' s in the 50' s. Late next week it is going to cool down some so the highs will be in the mid-low 60' s. The place that I am hunting is 1 hour from my home so I always hunt daylight till dark. However I don' t know if I can hunt daylight till dark in the 70 degree weather with confidence. So what is your opinion on the best way to hunt the rut during warm weather. Will bucks still seek and chase does during daylight hours during this warm weather? Should I still hunt daylight till dark as usual?

You have 4 weeks, I' d let the deer dictate how you hunt. I would sit late into the morn tho. Seems when the temps are warm during the day, the mornings are better for my area.

Like nub said the mornings are usually better when its warm.
When its warm and during the rut i try to get close to bedding areas instead of travel areas. If i have a bedding area with water near i will try to set up there. The rut will happen no matter what the weather but they will move mostly at night when its to warm. I notice they wont be to far from getting water either.
If its real warm hunt late in the mornings then come in and relax a bit or take a quick nap, run to the store or whatever. If the deer are not moving no use burning yourself out and not be able to sit when the temps finally do drop. I would think with 4 weeks of vacation you should have plenty of time to sit when the temps and timing is right.
Good luck, my hunt here starts on the 7th and im off till the 21st.

I have 2 weeks left of the 3 weeks leave I took. I was completely rained out for 2 of the first 3 days (3" monday and 2" wednesday) and then this dang heat arrived. I' ve still got 2 more days of temps around 80 before the 3 days of rain arrive. I' m planning on hunting with the mosquitoes buzzing around me, but I' m not heading out as early in the eveings since any movement then is right at last light. I haven' t seen any deer before 15 minutes past sunset this week--and the one I saw, I took! She was a nice big doe to help compensate for the wasted leave I' m using. Hopefully the heat wave will break and things will return to normal for this time of year.

Thanks for all the replies. Well I got some great news today. Starting Thursday the temps are going to be back to normal. Not cold like I would like but in the high 30' s for the lows and low 50' s and high 40' s for the high' s so I can live with that. Also I checked my deer cam today and on the way in right in front of my stand was a fresh scrape and rub. So things are looking up in my neck of the woods. Can' t wait till Thursday. Let the hunt begin!!!!!!

Hankfan,
I kind of have the same problem and I decided to stay out of my prime spots until the weather gets a little better for hunting. I have been doing a lot of scouting and finding some nice new places to hunt. I was afraid to hunt my hot spots during this weather because my confidence is way down and I dont want to get my scent in there everyday while things are this way.
I do all of my hunting in Wyoming county and have to drive about 2 hours and 15 minutes one way but I love it down there.
The best of luck to you and I hope you get a shot at that P&Y buck.

RacHunter- I have been doing the same thing, staying out of my best spots until the weather changes. I noticed that you are from Flatwoods. I went to college at Glenville State college about 30 minutes from Flatwoods. I used to hunt with a friend whos dad owns the John Deer dealership right in the middle of Flatwoods.
