Bummer - Missed opportunity!

I hunted friday morning, 20 minutes after sunrise, I see a buck trotting at about 60 yards and comming my way. Its a huge 8 point that I have a bunch of photos from the game cam. This buck was CRAZY! He was running back and forth, he' d run up ahead then backtrack. He' d spin in circles, nose to the ground, occasional grunts. I waited for my chance........twice this buck got 15 yards from me, but it was still always zigging and zagging, turning and twisting. And then gone!!!!!! I never got a shot!!!!!!! There was no way to get a responsible shot. I grunted twice during this specticle, it did nothing. 30 minutes later another buck (a nice nine pointer) came from the same direction. Once again, it was like it was on drugs, and someone was shooting it in the butt with a BB gun. All over the place it never stopped!!!! This one came through on my other side and checked out different spots, but never stopping! Once again, this buck got 18 yards away and I didn' t get a shot. Looking back I' m glad I didn' t I' d like to let him get bigger next year. But that first one, was a shooter!!

I' m sure these bucks are looking/searching for hot does, but geeees! I hope I can get a shot.

I' ve been hunting a buck in southern Iowa for 3 years and had never got a shot. Last year in november I had deer all over my stand including my huge 10 point. i had the buck of my dreams within 10-15 yards three time' s, but he was at a dead run chasing doe' s each time. I tryed grunting, turned my bleat can over I even yelled stop at the buck but couldn' t even slow the buck down. Although I didn' t get a shot that is my most memerable hunt to this day.

What would have likely been my best buck ever did that a couple years ago, but he was following a doe who didn' t care for his advances. I was at full draw at under 15 yards and couldn' t get them to slow down . . . frustrating.

I have never had luck with scents(bad luck) but I think I' ll put some scent on a mock scrape right on the trail 15 yards from my stand just to get the deer to stop. I think with all the sniffing he was doing if he gets to that ........he' ll stop..... and hopefully stop for good!

Thanks!

I think that some scent would have helped in that situation. I have heard of people whistling or yelling hey, to get them to stop for a brief shot opportuity. I have whistled at the deer at work and they seem to only pay attention about half the time, but if I make a squirrel barking sound they look up real quick. Maybe it is because it is dark outside or that squirrels are not up around the buildings.
