Got my Summit Viper today
 

Well, I finally broke down and bought the Viper today. I must say, nicely built. I climbed in the back yard with it and its a little awkward right now. Also, I noticed that there is a ton of stuff to hook up once on the tree. I' ll have to leave an hour earlier than usual to allow time to set it up. It seems really comfy, the seat is nice. I also like the bar around me, but wonder how interesting its gonna be to shoot from.

I know, I just got it, give it some time. But I gotta tell ya, I have my doubts right now. I still prefer my loggy.

I got mine before season started and you will love it I can almost gaurantee. It took a little while to get used to though. I shouldn' t pass on my bad habits, but I don' t worry about strapping the top portion to the tree. It is very secure once you get in positon. If you bypass it all you have to do is step up the seat. I can be up in the tree and harnessed in in 5 minutes. Goog Luck!!!!!!!!!!!

the only thing that I dont like about mine is that it isnt a Goliath :)

I hate heights but i am getting comfortable using my viper. Personally the FIRST thing i do is strap the seat portion to the tree :)

Well, with the floodlights on out back of the house, I climbed a little more with it. Not high, about 7 or 8 feet and got er fixed up. I think I really like it now. Climbing is a breeze and yeah, it bites hard into the tree. I think the only real complaint I have is the teeny platform size. I' m still used to the loggy that did give you some leg room up front. This thing is right at your heels. Oh, well, Im sure I' ll get used it.

I' m only 24, but I' m kinda like an old man, stuck in my ways. :D

I' ve been hunting a Viper for 3 years now. I love it. I lost the upper strap last year and have never missed it. The nice thing is when you are climbing down, the teeth bite so well that you can basically " jump" , letting the stand fall several feet each time. The one tip I have is to set the seat a little lower than you might think relative to the bottom for bowhunting. This way, you can freely lean out past the rail and easily make bowshots. The foot rest is key. Remember your harness. I don' t want to see any of you guys in the ER with a spine fracture. We get several every year.

I don' t know what your talking about when you say a lot of things to hook up when you have the stand on the tree. I own a Cobra XLS and all I have is the 2 cables to attach the top and bottom to the tree, put my feet in the climbing straps, climb the tree and then at hunting height strap the top too the tree takes all but 5 seconds and strap the seat back to the tree or i' ve even just had it straped tot he frame of the top portion of the stand. I' m usually up and hunting in no time at all. Everything that has to be hooked up only takes a few seconds each. When packing the stand I usally carry a bungee cord to replace the supplied strap. It is just easier to use the bungee strap to hold the top and bottom together when packing the stand in and out. You will see you will fall in love with your viper like the rest of us Summit owners. By the way have you seen any sign of the pre-rut here in the State College and surrounding areas yet Muzzyman88?

I guess I' m still wanting the simplicity of just hooking one band to the tree, climbing, and wrapping a cam buckle around the tree and sitting down. Oh well, for the additional comfort, I' ll take the summit over my old Loggy anyday.

PA, as far as pre-rut. I' ve seen a little buck chase a doe last weekend late in the evening, and am starting to see some rub lines here and there, but it just seems they are a little behind with this warm weather right now. Hopefully the upcoming cold front next week will be here to stay, I have the entire last week of season off!!

I know what you mean I haven' t seen a single scrape yet but I heard what sounded like a buck chasing a doe last saturday morning. And i' ve only seen a few rubs, and I know of atleast 7 buck running around on the prperty with 4 of them shooters, hopefully this cold streak will get them going. I saw on another post you hunt around rockview. I coach basketball and baseball in Bellefonte and travel the new bypass that runs truough rockview property and i' ve seen some real nice bucks. I just wish that area was accessible, there would be some nice deer to come out of that property if you could hunt it. Have you ever hunted doe there when they open it up once in a while?
