Missed deer at 2 yards. How???

I was sitting about 25 ft up in a huge pine tree. Had deer all around me and underneath the branches. Decided to try shoot one almost directly underneath me about 6 feet out from the tree. My arrow went over the top of the deer by a foot. How, or why? Do I need to aim really low on a shot like this?

try practicing a few shots in your yard. i can not say for sure that i have had a problem like that. i shot a deer Saturday at 3 yards and hit perfect. i only use one pin. but then again i practice from a tree at all those distances, so it might just come 2nd nature. just try and see what you need to do.

Bend at the waist, dont just point the bow down without bending the same %

Your form is very critical on those shots. If you do not bend at the waist you can hit high.

With correct form though those shots can easily be missed low.

it is a shot that needs to be practiced.

On another note - the target is very small at that angle and IMO is a low percentage shot. Always better to let them get out and away from the tree

Good Luck

From my experience of practicing that type of shot, i have to aim really low. Almost like i am shooting right beside the deer instead of right at it.

Bend at the waist.....your arrow will hit the same spot it' s supposed to.

I practice that shot and if you bend at the waist as has been suggested you should hit right where you place your pin.

do you by any chance have a string loop on your bow ? because if you do when you shoot at extreme down angles your arrow will actually lift up off the rest because there is no down pressure with a string loop big advantage shooting on flat ground but not on the down hill!

Hey one thought, If I remember right RobPAbowhntr or whatever his screen name was ROB to most of you. He wrote a post like this a while ago and I think it was last year before the season started and it stated that you use your next pin but I could be wrong here. But that would make you shoot higher even so. But I know like the others said bend at the waist as form is very important.

And also like another said wait till they get out a little farther from the tree for a higher percentage shot.

Three days ago I took a similar shot. The result was one lung and heart!

Like others have said bend at the waist and you will have no problems.

Oh and this shot was made with a string loop.:)
