THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
I went out hunting this evening and I turned the can over a couple of times and had a spike come runing in rite under my stand. he walked away an di turned it over and he ran back to me again. we went through that sequence about 4 times until he finally didnt come back.

RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
Last year I stopped a few bucks in their tracks with the can. IMO it is a really good call when the bucks start getting antsy.
My buddies and I call our cans the MOOOOOOOOOOER LOL |
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!

RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
Wow, the " real" hunters here are sure quick to look down their noses and ridicule others for speaking of anything other then a trophy around here lately.
I think it' s time some people realized that any animal taken with a bow is a trophy and shouldn' t be mocked because it doesn' t meet your same standards. This guy had a cool experience (for him) with a buck responding to his bleats while on stand. Are we really so uppity around here that all he' s gonna read are wise cracks because it wasn' t a 150 class buck?? Hunter4life87, It' s pretty cool when you know he is looking for you but can' t find ya.........I don' t care what size rack he' s got. Good job and it sounds like you had a blast on stand that day............what else really matters right?? Now go out there and call in the boy you are looking for and put him down!!! |
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
I get excited anytime a deer responds to a bleat, grunt or rattle. I don' t care if it' s a doe or buck it' s still a rush. :)

Notice the smilie faces after my post - it was in jest. RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
Last year I had a doe approach me from my right side. She stopped under my tree and looked to her left, behind me. Slowly I looked and " thought" I got a glimpse of the top of a rack and did see legs, probably about 40 yards behind me. She finally walked straight in front of me and stopped behind a pine. I tipped my Can twice, then a long grunt. Within a few seconds, I heard a branch snap over my left shoulder behind me. Slowly...I turned and saw a nice 10 point about 12 yards behind me and he rubbed a sapling for a second or two, then took a few steps and scratched around on the ground a bit...not a scrape, just getting cocky. He stopped right under me and finally took a few steps and appeared as though he was going to veer left which would have eliminated any type of shot. I drew back and did a quiet mouth grunt and he stopped and turned to the right just a bit. I had a small opening to shoot through the pine I sit in and, while I hit him a tad high at that angle, he dropped in his tracks. I immediately put another arrow in the boiler room and he expired instantly. He had some neat character with a split g2 on one side and a webbed g2 on the opposite. Also had a few small stubby kickers starting.
Did the can help in this situation...you bet. He was obviously parralleling the doe which no doubt had him in the general area. You never know if he would have presented himself in this situation if I didn' t coaxe him into position with the call(s). |
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
It is fun to see how a deer will react to a certain call. But, all you' re doing is educating them.
|
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
XPRESS..........
I dont know if Id be so quick to call that an education...... sounds to me like THAT buck failed graduate school !! ;):D[:-] |
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
Atlas - you are a little gun shy after that other post. On some public land shooting a 150 is like shooting a fish in a barrel - not much of a trophy in that now is there Have you deemed yourself the dink police.........LOL I wouldn' t jump to conclusions - the buck he called in may of had 75" spikes |
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
I was hunting yesterday and had a small buck cross about 75 yds out from me, hit my can a few times and got it to circle almost completely around me but never close enough for a shot.
|
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
I have had mixed results with the can. A few times I have had deer show interest and at other times they ignore it completely. Hopefully that will change with the rut getting close.

RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
I gotta wonder what the difference is in these " bleat cans" and the toy ones we used to get as kids for about $.50 that were supposed to sound like a cow, but sounded just like these " calls" ?
That is other than about $8.00 Anybody else remember those things? I think you can still find them. |
RE: THE CAN SUCCESS!!!
I had a 6 point get by me before I knew it the other morning. I tipped the can a couple of times and he came back. Unfortunatly he saw me first and bolted. I wasn' t going to take him but just wanted to experiment a little.
Later in the morning when I killed a doe I had another 6 point come in to her. He was grunting up a storm. That was neat to hear. It was a very quiet grut. I could barely hear him and he was within about 5 yards of me. Atlas, You haven' t gotten a replacement for that heart yet?:D Good Luck! |
