Drag Rag Question
I started using a drag rag today but I have a few questions first. I was using Tinks 69 on it and I was appling it about every 50 to 75 yards. Is this right as far as how often to apply it and how much do you use when you put it on? I had a 1 oz. bottle of tinks 69 and I used about 3/4 of the bottle on it. My stand is about 200 yards from my truck.

RE: Drag Rag Question
If the ground was dry I only reapply every 100 yards. If it' s wet then I use more every 50-75 yards. I' ve easily used a whole bottle before when using those foam type sticks that absorb the scent.

RE: Drag Rag Question
Personally I think you used a little too much for on just a drag, no if you were also doctoring scrapes well then you could easily use that much. I freshen my drags up every 75-100 yards or so, but with just a couple of drops. But then this is me, I have no idea if more or less is better.

RE: Drag Rag Question
I was contemplating a drag rag for sometime in the near future, but I' m not really 100% sure on the correct way to use one. Not the phsycial mechanics of putting it on the rag and dragging it behind you, but where do you guys walk with them? My one big concern has always been spooking deer up when I' m walking to my stand through areas I normally try to avoid. After all, I approach my stand normally from downwind so dragging a rag through there isn' t going to do me much good anyways.
And what, if any, luck has anyone had with using a drag? |
RE: Drag Rag Question
I thought a drag rag was when you get in a hurry in the restroom & come out with TP stuck to your shoe... :)

RE: Drag Rag Question
One problem with a drag rag is that it could work in reverse if you use one too far and don' t freshen it as you go in. Like anything else when it comes to trailing, animals trail in the direction from the weakest to the strongest scent to determine direction. If you apply scent to far from your stand and walk in a deer will actually trail your drag in reverse because the strongest scent is going to be where you started, not quit....applying more often might help prevent this however there are no gaurantees...

RE: Drag Rag Question
Thanks for all the responses guys. I figured that I was more than likely using too much, but I wanted to get some other opinions. I was thinking the same thing the first time I used one this year, I try to walk in from the direction that I think the deer will not come in from, so I thought that the drag was not doing me any good. What I did do though when I got to my stand was, I walked around my tree one time and then walked past my stand a little ways, then came back. Again, thanks for your input.:D
