Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
I' m feeling a little on the slow side here[&:], but can
someone please tell me how to keep my safety line from sliding down the tree? I know I' m supposed to run the knot end (including the prusic hitch) through the loop end...I' ve been able to follow the directions that far;)....but, the safety line/rope just slides down the tree[:@]. Can someone give me a little direction here?:) Thanks TB |
RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
Two Beards,
I' m trying to answer from memory, as I' ve got three of their harnesses (every time I get a new Summit stand, they send me a new one). Let' s see.... hmmm, sounds like you' re doing everything right. The prusic knot should be on your side of the loop, and then I usually snug the prusic knot up against the loop. That rope the loop is on is so soft, I' ve never had any trouble with it sliding down any of the trees I' ve ever been in; it' s always caught on the bark right where I tightened it. Not sure if that helps; if not, I' ll run downstairs and get one of the harnesses out and look at it closer for you. |

Thanks for the response, but isn' t the prusic knot supposed to be adjustable? If it' s pushed up against the loop end of the rope....as soon as I attach my safety clip to it, and slide it down to the right height, the safety line around the tree slides down[:' (]. It looks way too simple to not figure out....but, I can' t. Maybe it' s these smooth barked oak trees we have here in Iowa;). I' ll give it another go in the AM[&:]. TB |
RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
The adjustment feature in the prusic knot comes in the fact that you can slide it up and down the length of rope which you' ve double back around brought through the loop ... the " tag" end of the rope with the loop in it.
I still can' t figure out why that rope with the loop in it would slide down... did you get a really soft rope (the one with the loop in it)? I mean, mine' s so soft, it' s almost got fuzzy threads from the cotton sticking out of it. There' s no way mine' s going anywhere once I cinch it up. |
RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
I just got mine and the rope is new, so it' s still very
smooth. Maybe the bark on the tree I was in the other day was unusually smooth?? I will give it a go in the morning...and check in tomorrow night;). Thanks for the help:). TB |
RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
TB.
I usually put the loop end on the main tree trunk just above a small limb and if the tree dont have a small limb I put it above my bow hanger. |
RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
Try this;
After you wrap the safty line around the tree and thread the tag end and the knot through the loop, push the loop back around to the side of the tree and pull the tage end to tighten it. The weight of your harness and the rams horn should keep it tight. If not, try pushing your loop on toward the back of the tree. I haven' t had any problems with mine. Good Luck |
RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
When you put the pursic against the loop pull on it to tighten it up. When I tighten mine up it very seldom moves unless I move it.

RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
I use a screw in bow hanger that also keeps my safety line from sliding. It works well for me.

RE: Question on my " Seat O The Pants" ??
Mine would' nt slide down a light pole. The prusic knot is made to go anywhere on the tag end of the rope, Just snug your rope around the tree and then adjust your prusic knot anywhere on the tag end of the rope for your comfort, leaving your loop around the tree tight. Your prusic knot does not have to be slid up tight next to your loop or close to the tree.
