Going with the ole Muzzy
Guys
I have been shooting broadheads for 2 weeks, Muzzy 3 blade, Steel Force, and Montec G5' s......... I really want to use the Steel Force because i like the design but i am having a confidence problem with them...... I like to be able to take a shaft with a broadhead and stand it on its tip and spin it and see it spin like a Gyro.... I cant do that with the Steelforce because of the way they rind the tip to keep it strong....but it is usually not DEAD center so the only way to test them is with an arrow spinner which is ok, BUT I also like to shoot a head before I hunt with it and doing that with a steel force means re-sharpening which I have fond is tough with that head as far as taking it apart.... The Montec is an A+ head as far as accuracy, and alignment... as good as they get but not quite sharp enough for me - SO Im going with the Muzzy 3 blade.... I may try the other on Hogs as Im getting good accuracy from all 3 but being that I am driving 980 miles to deerhunt I want to KNOW I have shot the head arrow combo and hitt the dead center at 20,30,40 yards..... So MUZZY it is for me for now...... No reason for the post - just felt like ventin after really wanting to shoot Steel Force.... |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Can' t comment on the others but Muzzy has never let me down. I shoot the 125 grain 4 blade and if it, it is dead. Have not had any problems finding them either.
That is just my biased opinion.[:-] |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I' ll throw in another vote for the muzzy. I shoot a 100 gr. 3 blade and they fly awesome. They also spin like a top (providing the insert has a nice fit). And I love the fact that you can practice with the practice blades, and, without taking the head off, put in the hunting blades and you' re ready to go. Awesome set-up.

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I have been shooting muzzy for the past 3 seasons. 90gr 4 blade. The only problem I have encountered is finding replacement blades in local sporting goods stores. In fact I can not even find a muzzy in the store that is less than a 100gr. Lost of 3 blade 100 and 125' s but no 90' s.
For this reason I am going to switch to 3 blade 100' s for next season. |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
i was sold on muzzy before i even had my bow....was going to go with thunderheads, but muzzy did the job, even my lil 75grain,3 blade.....

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Earlier I shot a doe with a Montec G5 and it did a good job, but I' m starting to believe they are a pain to keep sharp. They are super accurate though. Well tonight I shot another doe with my old standby 3 bladed Muzzy 125 grain. It was a complete pass through at 40 yards. They' re still a great head.:)

Contact Larry at Precision Archery 478-785-1118 and ask him about the broadhead test he did. You may be surprised about the good ole muzzy.[:o]

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Uh-.. I hear it...... INCOMING !!!
Kidding - Ok - since you opened a can of worms, lets hear about this test - you may as well speak out now because its gonna fly if ya dont !! ;) |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Been shooting Muzzys a long time now and they are the best out there in my book. The only test I need is seeing them group great in the back yard and seeing what they do to a deer. I' ve seen some of these test where they shoot into carpet, plywood, barrels,ect....The real test is a double lung shot on a deer.

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I ONLY SHOOT MUZZY. I HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THEM.

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Muzzy rules not only with braodheads but with arrow rests also. Of course this is just MHO. ;)

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I have read lots of different broadhead tests over the years.....from different magazine publications, different individuals. From all of them, 5shot gets my vote because of the time he puts in, variety of objects he uses, and strict guidelines he sets in his tests.
I do want to add something........I do my own testing while I hunt:) For me, after several years of using Muzzy..whether it be the 125 grain or 100 grain head......they do a great job, in both initial penetration, cutting and the combination of both leaves a mean blood trail! Many broadheads have their good things, a few have bad things, but as far as the trocar tip........just look how many heads have adapted the Trocar tip to their line of heads, that Muzzy introduced and continues to use! I am not a Muzzy loyalist, I just use them because they work for me!!!!!!:D |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Anyone called Precision Archery yet to get the scoop? I' m interested just not interested enough to make a long distance phone call to a stranger about something I heard on a MBoard. :D

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I dontw exactely who Precision Archery is - Hes not talking about PSE is he ? Know matter what - I have difficulties thinking there are problems with the Muzzy broadheads in general - sure they are not perfect - BUT - I cannot see the Muzzy' s wide acceptance if there was an obvious problem with them........
I am going to shoot them regardless - They fly well enough for me, and after reading 5shots review and many other opinions... how can you think they are a bad head ?? Id like to try out the Magnus broadheads - the 4 blade..... 5shot gave them a score of 26....... and I have never read anything bad about them either but I have never had one in my hand and I am only 13 days from my 10 day trip to Illinois / Indiana....... So Muzzy will get the nod this year......... |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I love Muzzy broadheads. I' ve been using them so far this season. I' ve been experimenting with the Crimson Talon broadheads. I do carry one in my quiver but I' ve yet to hunt with it. I really like the way they fly during practice. I plan on hunting with it in the next week or two and hopefully I' ll get a shot.

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
I don' t think you will regret your choice eightwgt, I' ve been shooting 100 grain 3-blade muzzy' s for 10 years without a complaint..........again this season they have performed flawlessly, took down a nice 8 last weekend and a mature doe yesterday afternoon, as someone else previous said, they slice nice and leave a mean blood-trail....in addition to busting bone when it is required, while also maintaining awesome arrow flight......but thats just my opinion.;)

RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
Another vote here for Muzzy 100 grain 3 blade.....and the zero effect is hard to beat too.
You cannot argue with results....:D |
RE: Going with the ole Muzzy
You got to dance with who brought ya...:D
