Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
Somebody has been using my stand, and there he is! The following is just me venting a bit and a wake up for those who need to think of such things.
Went in to a small woods i hunt, owned by my father in law, and while headed back to stand B I see some persons red light coming from stand A. I didn' t go to stand A because of wind direction this morning. Now I start thinking. You know...hmmm is that close to my stand or is it right where my stand is. Hmmm doesn' t matter, only one other guy allowed in here and he wouldn' t sit in my stand and his stands are no where near there. Hey there is no truck out there either.....hmm. After getting into stand B I stewed about it, plus I seen the guy flashing that red light everywhere. I decided to call the wife and have her call her Dad and then DNR. She calls back...too early for DNR, no one answering. Bottom line, since this is not gun season I just shouldn' t have second guessed myself. Hunt be damned I should have walked directly over to MY stand A and found out who it was. No confrontation would be needed...all I need is a discription then I could go back to the car and wait for them to leave. I believe it was some Amish from just down the road cause I didn' t hear or see any cars and when I went over there after I found out no DNR were available the person was gone. I bet they figured no one would be out on a Friday morning. Now not only do I wonder who it was, but how many other times have they been in there and have they harvested deer from there..... ILLEGALLY, i might add. My father in law is going to stop by the Amish place and ask them to look out for people in the woods cause some where seen that didn' t have hunting rights. Hopefully they will get the picture. |
RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
Seems to me there has been a lot of this going on lately. I wonder if people just don' t know it' s rude to hunt someone else stand, let alone illegal to trespass. My suggestion is to invest in a pitbull! Nothing a nip in the but can' t cure.

I think Its best to be careful with unethical hunters. Theres a lot of crazys out there. Hope you find out who it is.

RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
I know the feeling, last year I watched a guy stalk my stand to within 20 yards when he seen me. Said he did not know I was there. Wondering about all those damn cigarette butts on the ground[:@]. This year he has just started putting his stands up around mine. Not just one but all my stands. Would say something but he is related to the land owner and a little hunting is better than no hunting. A couple of years ago found a cigarette pack, a lighter, a spent 30-30 casing and a gut pile at one of my two man stands on property I have the sole rights to. Packed it all up and sent it to the guy who hunts the ajoining property with a nice little note about the sheriff being notified. Which reminds me, next time call the local sheriff, in my county they are the ones who dispatch the MDC and there is always one of the agents on call.

I know the feeling also. Last year I got to my stand at about noon on opening day of rifle season only to find a guy standing at the base of my tree. I walk up to the guy and it turns out he just shot a deer from that very spot. Figuring the sooner I get him out of there the better off I' d be, I helped him track the deer. An hour later, he finally gave up after not finding any blood. Fortunately I had a great hunt that day, but some people need to learn a little respect.

RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
You know after thinking about this a bit... I have found myself waffling back in forth with how I feel about actually prosacuting the person.
First I think, wow that is harsh to actually get someone in trouble over hunting. Then I think...what am I thinking...he got himself in trouble, he knows better, and he was in MY damn stand. If i think the person would take a hint and just not do it that would be one thing...but now part of my concern is, when is he in there that I don' t know about. 3 Step I know EXACTLY what your talking about when you say be careful. Many years back 2 hunting buddies and myself ran into 2 guys (in street type cloths) hunting a woods we KNEW we were the only ones allowed in. This is shotgun season mind you. So there are 5 guys standing with loaded guns talking about how 2 shouldn' t be there. First they tried to say they had permission, from (pointing) that house...funny that house doesn' t own this ground. Then they tried to say they thought it was public hunting ground.... yeah that went over well. Looking back on that is real scary! Who knows what those deadbeats were thinking. |
RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
if i ever find anyone in my stand i' ll freak....i' m afraid i would just lose it.....i think all common sense would be leave my body as the rage engulfed me....
all poachers need to be prosecuted...i would hope i could stay calm long enough to do what i had too and be safe, but man o man...just the thought of it gets me fired up...... |
RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
The easy way to get the situation clear and rectified would have been to wait until it got light and pay the jerk a visit. You now have NO idea who it was or what they were doing or IF they were in your stand for sure. Bitching later does nothing. You should have checked it out. They' ll be back again and again until taught they' re UNWELCOME and they' re trespassing and in violation of the law. Tell them they get one second chance and you just had yours. Don' t come back or you' ll be talking to the game warden. Take some steps out or the stick down or whatever you got going up to the place. Paddlelock it to so it' s not easily stolen. POST the property line. You let them get away with thinking they can slip in and out.... and there' ll be more than one in no time. They' re just screwing up your hunting and all your plans. If you come to hunt you really don' t need to be the 5 guy that sat there in 5 days in a row. Your stands are burned out before you get there. Stop the complaining and do something about it.

RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
Ahhh first off davidmil
your tone is not really apreciated, nor I feel warrented, and certianly not your know it all attatude. If you will re-read my first post you will see that I A) said I should have went right to it even before light, waiting till first light as you suggest does no good cause HE ALREADY left. B) Did go to it after it was light and couldnt get a hold of a game wardon C) STATED VERY clearly I was venting and giving people a heads up... Oh and D) I do know they were in my stand as there is no way the light could be seen from where I was at unless they were elevated, and no other trees have stands in them or could be climbed et al. So stop trolling looking for someone to demean. If you just can' t stand it when people complain you shouldn' t read a post that starts out " The following is just me venting a bit and a wake up for those who need to think of such things." . Thank you to those who have contributed with respect for others in mind. |
RE: Hey your not me...and your in MY stand
