Only reason I can see someone shooting a fawn on purpose would be if they REALLY needed the meat or wanted a very tender cut of meat other wise, thats an expensive kill, when you do the math, lic tag and then how many LB's of meat your going to get I'd be embarrassed to have a fawn mounted I killed in my house? so what would the pint be? |
I hunt at a vineyard where the owner's position is kill 'em all. He has a valid concern given the thousands of $$ of lost inventory due to the deer, electric fencing and other measures only having limited effect. That said, I have had quite a few fawns in my sights during their dopey "too dumb to run" phase, and have been unable to pull the trigger.
A piebald fawn? What would you do with it once you shot it? Keep the hide? |
No and no. Not enough meat to make it worth the effort. If the freezer was running on empty and I was running out of opportunities to fill a tag, I might shoot a yearling. Definitely not a fawn, though.

They do drag nice though.... I've never intentionally shot a fawn... But in my younger years I shot a doe that weighed 39lbs dressed I believe..... It happens. That being said, if someone shoots a little one. Good for them. It's their tag to use however they see fit.

With spots? No. I just couldn't pull the trigger. Too big of an old softy. Yearling for a nice spit roast? Oh yes! Open pit with my rotisserie set up with some Apple, Cherry, and Hickory for the fire? YUMMMMM!! Set up nice n high for a 4 to 6 hour turn, basting with some garlic butter every so often! Dangit now I'm hungry again!!!
