Walkthrough a new hunting area?
What steps do you take the first time you go to a new area to hunt. Please try to be as detailed as possible with your answers. I am trying to learn to be a better, more productive hunter, and what better way than to ask other, more experienced hunters.:)

RE: Walkthrough a new hunting area?
Before you even step in the woods you should know the predominate wind direction for your hunting area. Find an aerial map of the land and look at it real good and make an educated quess of where the deer are coming from and where they may be going. Locate possible funnels, saddles and travel corridors. You will then have a good idea of the " lay of the land" before ever stepping on it. If you scout it during the season be as low impact as possible. Don' t scout in the morning or evening. If you must scout make it midday. If you are " stealthy" try scouting while still hunting. You want to shy away from that unless you have the patience and ability to take your time and be very quiet. Keep the wind in your face or quatering from where you suspect them to come from to you. Always respect the deers nose. It will bust you faster than anything. So keep your scent to a minimum. Much of this you prob already know, so good luck and enjoy.
