Texas Calling lately

i hunt in Texas. central to east texas. In the past week i have seen a few, but it has been warm. one morning i tried a grunt, about 30 minutes later 3-6 does came by. i doubt they were responding to the call at all. Blew a grunt at them to see what they were up to, nothing.

Yesterday (10-18) saw a very small buck (spike), grunted at him and he didnt care. Bleated at him, he didnt care. he was just eating. So from what i have see, wait a few days at least for the calling in tx.

i hunt in Montgomery County, around Conroe , Texas....I agree, it is a little early. It always seems like peak rut around the last weekend of bow season to me.

I am hunting in Runnels county about 40 miles SW of Abeline. I managed to call in a single buck with my can. My friend has called in 3 bucks and several does with his can. Niether of us have tried a grunt.
