October Mountain Goat bowhunt pictures.
Finally, here are some photo's from our late October goat bowhunt. As most of you know, the weather played a role in the hunt, and here is some proof of that!
Hopefully we will be back out there again this October! The pics didn't come up, so here is the link to the photos. http://community.webshots.com/user/arcticbowman first morning we woke up to 14" of fresh snow. that grew to nearly 2 feet by the end of the 1st day. Here is me with the bow in pack, and ice axe, trying to maneuver my way down the mountain back to our camp. Here's Tom in the same predicament. After this descent, he took the next one about 40 yards down in an avalanche before stopping short of a tree line. Here's a picture of the mountain on the way in to our beach where we set up base camp. We were in the middle of the picture, on the alpine where the snow level was. It came down a bit after the first night. What an adventure! Call me crazy, but I'm ready to do this again! Edited by - ArcticBowMan on 02/02/2002 15:42:03 |

Can anybody see the pics? I can view them when I open up the thread. That photopoint was a lot easier to use than this webshots photo hosting page!

AB, I can't get your pics to show up on the board either, but I did check out your pics on the link you set up. That is some spectacular country,a bit different than our landscape here in Iowa. I've never been to Alaska...hopefully someday. Kinda sounds like the weather threw a wrench in your goat bowhunt. Is that an unusual amount of snow for October? Hope you get a chance to go back this fall...definitely a beautiful animal you are hunting. Thanks for the pics!

RE: October Mountain Goat bowhunt pictures.
It doesn't normally snow that early in South East Alaska, but we hit the odd year. Most of the snow at sea level melted that day, but the tops of the mountains probably kept that layer for the winter. With a previous layer of snow, then a wet, heavy layer on top of that, it was really nasty avalanche conditions.
It's very rare for a snowfall to happen that early down there two years in a row, so we are hoping the weather will fare better this October. We want a later season goat though mainly since the hides are so much fuller. |

RE: October Mountain Goat bowhunt pictures.
ABM, looks like the ultimate bowhunt to me. I hope to get there someday too with my son. I have a friend who hunts and fishes in Alaska. He tells me there is nothing better! I'm looking forward to making a trip, it may take a couple of years before I can get there, but I know it will be a trip of a lifetime! Thanks for pics.
