Late Season Tips

So, who will still be bowhunting into January/February?? My first "late season" hunt will be this next friday and Saturday Night. I still have all my Ohio tags (Been waiting on a buck) but will shoot doe now if I get the chance. So What are some late season tips? Should I focus on food sources? Travel routes to food? How do you hunt the late season?

Food sources are key.. Don't worry about hunting mornings. Colder temps will cause deer to move earlier in the afternoon.

Yep, and Yep. Them wore out bucks will be looking for food to recover now. And those wore out Does will be doing the same. If any of your properties have a good winter food plot planted that would be where I would concentrate my focus.

I like to give them a minute to calm down after gun the seasons (I don't know when yours are?) my winter food is getting tore up in the middle of the night right now as the deer are pretty finicky but also very hungry.

I'll avoid hunting and educating them for now until I think they are hitting it in the daylight hours.

Southern facing hills and slopes will stay the warmest and they will bed there . Preferably close to the food so they expend less energy getting to it. This winter doesn't seem to bad so far and is not expected to be so you picked the right time to start. When the snow gets deep they will migrate to the thick swamps, esp if it boarders oaks where they will come out to feed .

Wasn't able to go Friday due to a family thing, but got out for 3 hours saturday. No Deer. Did learn something though. I dressed way to warm for the walk in. I'll be out wednesday and will carry the layers in and put them on once in the stand.
