One Mean Doe

This morning around eight o' clock I had a doe and a eight point walk in to my stand together . Since I already filled my buck tag I wanted to try to take the doe.About 15 yards to the right of me are buleberry' s and they went to pick off any remaining one' s. Well every time the buck tryed to eat she would wack him with her front hoof and I mean hard this went on for about five minutes..Finally he took off and she stayed and started tearing up the ground.she never gave me a good shot . Have you ever seen such dominince from a doe..

I' ve seen a doe with two fawns in tow, run a 10pt. off the corn pile in my backyard last year. She walk out of the woods stomped a couple of times and when the buck didn' t move she raised up on her back legs and busted him with her two front hoofs. Didn' t take that 10 point long to get the message. He moved off to the wood line and waited until the doe and fawns were done eating before he came back up to finish off the corn pile.

Yes, I' ve seen it and another reason for doe management. Bucks and does compete for the same food, too many doe, not enough feed for bucks and bucks will move off for better nutrition, does are pretty much home bodies but bucks will travel....

More to the point of your post, we had a barren doe that ruled a 8 acre alphalpha field, any deer that entered the field, she' d run over to and check it out, if it was a buck, usually she' d run it off....try as we might, we couldn' t get her in range, she' s not there this year....:D
