275+ lb 14-Pnt buck in denims and T-shirt!
My wife has informed me that this past weekend an experienced shooter who works where my wife does got off too late to get everything together and make it to his stand in time to hunt; but his 15-year old nephew was wanting to go so the guy ran his nephew out to their hunting area. The coworker was in his street clothes (denims and T-shirt).
They arrive at their area at about 5:30PM. Once at the location, the guy decided to get in his stand (had his bow in his truck) anyway. He was still dressed in his street clothes and had not showered or descented, and did not use any other lures or cover scent. 15 minutes in his stand, a huge buck walked under his stand and the guy dropped the buck. It is 275# field-dressed and has a 14-point rack. His nephew also shot a smaller but also a nice buck. When you think of the expense and effort that most of us commonly expend, sort of depresses you, does it not? [X(] |

It sure does....I spend a lot of time staying as scent free as possible, and for a decent 8 point and some doe. Others go out and shoot a big buck while stinky and glowing in there street clothes.....oh well, my time will come one of these years.

Just goes to show you that there is a sucker born every minute and big money knows it and exploits it.

Great story! :)
I think we better keep this one under wraps though. If word ever got out how much time, money, and effort I put into this addiction I have only to have the better half find out it was unnecessary I could be in big trouble!!:D |

Those of you whose wives will not know unless she reads this post or you tell her, are lucky.
My expense and time is the next thing my wife commented on as soon as she finished telling me the story. Compounded by the fact that I had just got back home last night after spending the weekend hunting, spending money for travel, food, etc, and that I had recently spent about $500.00 to transist back to my recurve, tailored a new set of camo togs, etc. I did try to head her off at the pass by saying " beginner' s luck!" No dice! She was holding four aces and a wild card. She said, " Not quite, he has been bowhunting since he was 10 years old and he is in his late 20' s!" If she had known that I was going into depression at the moment she told me the story, she might have been easier on me....then, maybe not! :) She has went to the store, when she gets back I am going to throw the old standby on her; " It ain' t the kill, it' s the hunt!" She' ll probably have a counter. They (wives) always do. [X(] |
