Who makes the best bow?

Ok. So obviously I' m a little predjudice I prefer Bowtech Stalker but I' m sure many of you out there would say there is a better bow on the market. So let' s hear it. What bow is the most forgiving, dependable, most important silent, and accurate. Btw lets put a cap on it no more than $600.

Every manufacturer makes the best bow - for someone. There is no such thing as The Best bow for everyone.

But, if you just want an opinion...;) Martin Cougar Elite with dual cams.

The old Mathews vs Hoyt debate. I myself prefer Mathews, but all companies make good bows.

MATHEWS HANDS DOWN!!!!!

NO ONE MAKES A BETTER BOW!!!!!
IF YOU DON' T THINK SO TEST THEM, LOOK AT RESEARCH DONE..
THE NEW HOYT CAM AND A HALF IS JUNK.... PSE IS FOLLOWING SUIT AS WELL.
I SHOOT A PSE THUNDERBOLT...JUST LAST NIGHT MY BOW BLEW APART WHEN I WAS PRACTICE SHOOTING..IT IS A 2000 MODEL..
FROM WHAT YOU ASK , BAD DESIGN PLAIN AND SIMPLE...THEY ADMITTED IT TOO...
I CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD STAND BEHIND IT 100%
AND FIX IT, WHATEVER IT NEEDS...I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL PRO SHOP, AND HE EVEN TOLD ME ABOUT THE PROBLEMS PSE ARE HAVING.....
THE BREAKDOWN ON#1 IS AS FOLLOWS MATHEWS,HOYT,PSE 1-2-3
PSE USED TO BE #1 THAT IS UNTIL MATHEWS CAME AROUND...
YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHY I AM SHOOTING A PSE AND NOT A MATHEWS
PLAIN AND SIMPLE ,I CANNOT AFFORD ONE RIGHT NOW BUT, AFTER THIS SEASON IS OVER MY BOAT WILL BE GONE AND I WILL OWN A MATHEWS.......
SOME GUYS MAY SLAM ME FOR WHAT I HAVE SAID BUT, I JUST DON' T REALLY CARE!!!! THE PROOF IS OUT THERE ABOUT MATHEWS, GO FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF....

RE: Who makes the best bow?

The best bow out there is the one that fits you best, holds best for you, is most comfortable for you, and within your budget.

As you can see from my sig, Bowtech is my preferred brand by far, but I don' t think you can go wrong with any of the other popular manufacturers like Mathews, Hoyt, Martin, & PSE. Some of the smaller manufacturers like Merlin, Diamond and a handful of others also build very high quality equipment.

Stalker22,

Only $600.00 cap ?
That would not touch any of my 7 compounds. ;)

thats easy CHEVY of course:D

Stalker22 10-11-2003 07:21 PM

RE: Who makes the best bow?

CHEVY??? You must not have been down south in a while. Ford rules tha land down here.

Of course I agree that the best bow is the one that fits you. I' ve been known to use an older Pearson bow that I' ve done a lot of personal adjustments to make it feel right for me. However, what I' m getting at is there are obviously differences between the major brand types. Cam designs, weight, structure design etc... So what makes Matthews (just using them as an example) design so much better. What technology do they have that PSE, Hoyt, Bowtech, or any other brand does not have. Also, if they don' t have such a great advance on the others then why are they so expensive? Not trying to ask stupid questions just trying to spur on lively discussion.

This debate could go on forever!

Duhunt, what proof do you offer that Matthews is the best? What they spout about as all their IBO wins, I can name several manufacturers that win many tournaments each year in different organizations and classes, indoors or outdoors.

This is the best bow made...................the one that I currently shoot.:D Then the next bow I shoot will be the best ever;):D

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Someone said: " .. if they don' t have such a great advance on the others then why are they so expensive?"

Answer: Perhaps it is all the money they spend on advertising to convince everyone they are the best.
Ronald McDonald used to do the same thing but he got to be old hat. As many have said, I suspect the best bow is the one that works the best for you.

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Cougar Mag,
I agree with you bout this debate could go on forever...and yes i couldn' t agree more with all of you guys bout saying the best bow is the one that fits you...
the question at hand i was refering to is ,who makes the best bow?more forgiving,
dependable, silent, and accurate? Can anyone honestly say that mathews is not the smoothest shooting, quietest, bow staright out of the box? And once you get it set up very accurate, with consistency? i know depends on the person shooting blah blah blah...
but really can you? No.....If they are not the best on the market , then why is every bow manufacture out there trying to copy what they do? Think about it..seriously...who invented single cam? mathews....since have the other bow manufactures not tried to copy them? Mathews don' t copy other manufactures products, cause they don' t have too...
They also were the first to invent the cam and a half..but never brought it to market..why? because it did not meet expectations.....
i never said i personally had proof as to why they are the best.....The proof is out there if you really want to spend the time to find out...next time your in your local pro shop ask them if they have video(s) of bows that are compared to mathews, though they may not want to show them to you cause they are in the bussiness to sell bows, they do exist.....

PA hunter 10-12-2003 07:29 AM

RE: Who makes the best bow?

I can' t figure why everyone says that mathews is the most expensive has anyone priced A Bowtech ? only at most A $50.00 differance. They could be the worst bow on the market but with their high price to match the market Mathews has people would buy it & even if they could' nt shoot it they would still say I got A (just say) Bowtech & it' s the best.
I admitt I love the MATHEWS commericles on tv & everyone shoots mathews on the hunting shows. High price sells just as much as quality if ABC bow company cam out with A $900.00 bow with in A couple of days people would be on here bragging about the price & how smooth it was.
I would never put down A FORD! STALKER22 their new line of trucks are SWEET I belive their just as good as my chevy well almost;)

RE: Who makes the best bow?

I too would like to see this " proof" that DUHUNT is claiming proves Mathews is better than every other bow made! I' m sure all we will find is someone elses opinion. With the competition the way it is now, I believe all the bow companies are making good products. Like others have said it boils down to what the shooter feels comfortable with.

Arthur P 10-12-2003 09:33 AM

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Think about it..seriously...who invented single cam? mathews
Nope. A fella named Graham in the 70' s put a single cam on the GrahamDynabow. Here' s a pic of a fella shooting Martin' s prototype version in 1976.

Mathews developed a different rigging system for the single cam, they did not invent it.

If they are not the best on the market , then why is every bow manufacture out there trying to copy what they do?
When the industry is hit with a fad, all the manufacturers have to follow the fad or lose market share. If they don' t produce what people want, their sales go to pot. There have been an awful lot of fads over the years. The single cam fad is already fading, and Mathews is sweating. They' ve hyped the single cam so much that there is no hope for them if the ' hybrid' cam system takes off and creates a new fad. Or if people decide en masse that the old dual cam wasn' t nearly as bad as the advertising said and start going back to it. Mathews has lived high on the hog by the single cam the past few years. They could easily die by it as well.

VAhuntr 10-12-2003 09:43 AM

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Arthur P,

Do you think that is why Mathews is advertising against Hoyt' s Cam & 1/2 so much because they are worried about it?

Arthur P 10-12-2003 10:04 AM

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Naturally. They didn' t worry too much when it was just Darton, but now that Merlin and Hoyt have jumped on the hybrid cam bandwagon, and others are lining up to do the same.... They' re seeing their life flash before their eyes. And a lot of potential lost revenue if manufactuers go to a different design and don' t have to pay their patent licensing fees any more.

At least, that' s the way I see it.

Honestly, I like a couple of things about the single cam, but there are more things about them I dislike. Haven' t made my mind up yet about the hybrids. The ones I' ve been around don' t seem any quieter than straight dualies. Duals have stood the test of time.

Stalker22 10-12-2003 10:50 AM

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Not to bash Matthews or anything but if I remember correctly in economics class: supply and demand designates that if you can' t sell enough of your product to creat a profit then you must raise the price. Is that what happened to Matthews? Also, is that what' s happening with Bowtech? Still, if their product is so great wouldnt it be a higher road to take to lower the price so more people can enjoy the product? (I must admit that I have a bit of a problem with the pricing of some Bowtech products as well).
Furthermore, what are the main advantages or disadvantages of a single vs. a dual cam system. Is a dual cam system that much better? Or reliable? If so why do they still make single cam systems?

Again still just furthering on great conversation?

And yes Chevy does make some really nice trucks too. My best friend is a Ford dealer so I' m kinda biast (sp). ;)

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Stalker22: We all bring a little predjudice to bear whether its pickup trucks or bows. One thing that quality products have in common is that they are built to a tolerance that will insure that they will last longer than something that isn' t put together as well. Generally speaking parts that fit together properly don' t rattle as much and make far less noise as a result. There may be exceptions but accuracy of something like a bow is going to be better when there is a whole lot less shaking going on. My personal pick for the tightest quality control and least amount of noise produced by a bow is the Newberry bow produced in Chattanooga Tennessee. The list price for Newberry bows is $550. I' ve had Browning, Bear, Jennings, Mathews, Martin. and Hoyt bows, and I' ve paid more and gotten less bow in return. Just my opinion. Now back to the Hoyt vs. Mathews " tastes great!-less filling!" debate. Good luck hunting!

RE: Who makes the best bow?

DUHUNT (MR. ALL CAPS!) JUST KNOWS THAT MATHEWS BOWS ARE THE BEST, EVEN THOUGH HE HAS NEVER OWNED ONE? AMAZING!

I could also say that Chevy Trucks create a partial vacuum with thier pistons.[&:]

I have never owned one though, so my feelings would be both biased and unsubstantiated.;)

I for one, have a Bowtech bow that shoots much more consistently and accurately (for me), as well as being faster than the 2 Mathews bows that I used to own.:D

I have a few bows that I have been playing with this year to basically see which one of them will be my #1 backup to the Bowtech. I shoot them for a while, then shoot the Bowtech and wonder why I am worrying about shooting something else.;)

I was at a loss for words when I read your post. I am glad the board finally has the final word on what the best bow is. Since you seem to be such an informed insider kind of guy would you please tell me what makes Hoyt cam 1/2 and PSE junk. You know this " research" you speak of???? You are comparing a relatively inexpensive PSE bow and a hoyt bow you most likely have never shot to a bow you don' t even own. I will not argue the fact that Mathews makes a fine bow (as do most major bow manufactures) but I want to know what qualifies you to say it is the best. It is people like you that only wants conflict. You could have merely said Mathews, stated why you like the Mathews (that you don' t even own)and left it at that. But you had to bash other peoples bows. I shoot the cam 1/2 and absolutely love it. I shot a bunch of the new 03 bows when I bought mine and the cam 1/2 suited me very well. The bare bow was 400.00 for the magnaTec xt2000. That is a steal for its performance. You have no credibility as a poster on this forum to me now. Maybe next time you will " care" and think things out before you post such non sense

RE: Who makes the best bow?

Maybe a lot is the indians vs the arrows. I just replaced my old PSE carrol intruder with a new PSE carrera and am getting it ready for its second elk hunt. It cost me $350 new plus $150 for my shop to rig it. Shoots quiet and fast and the 20 yard pin works to 30 yards. It kills animals and I like it. Is it the best? Maybe not but it does the same job a matthews will do and if I like it its the best bow for me. Good hunting.
