did I jump the buck?

The beginning of archery season I shot a nice ten point that was twenty yards away from me. The shot looked good. But then the buck just walked off. Literally walked off. I waited an hour since this was my first buck I actually ever shot and couldn't wait. I then found a very good blood trail. It was consistent and there was quite a lot. I then find the arrow and it was covered in blood. As im following the trail I get into some thick stuff then see the partial body of a dear run away from me at about 10 yards. Did I jump my buck? We went back the next day and searched all day. Never found him.

sounds like you very well may have. bummer you didn't find him. if it were me I'd go back in a few days and look for birds and predators, you might get lucky and find him. the meat will be no good but at least you might figure out what happened to him and learn something for next time.
out of curiousity where did the arrow hit. was he broad side ,at an angle, ect...

I was in a 10 ft tripod and he was directly broad side but to the right a few yards. It looked good but then I realized it might of been a tad too low since of the incline. It was still a very good blood trail

Oh yes and we went back the next weekend and didnt find him. Found the remains of a 7 point at the river though.

If you were up in the air and think the shot was low, it probably was. They can leave what looks like enough blood to be dead in 50 yards when it really isn't. It sounds like you did your best to find him and that's all any of us can do. Hopefully, he made it and will be even bigger next season for you to get another chance,
