RE: Neck Shot - Ethical?

Am I the only one here at BBS that' s goin to be honest about this?
Gaturkhunter, has admitted how excited his brother got, and this was only a doe.
and NO one, has the right to tell another hunter what shot to take or not take.
the decesion is strictly up to the hunter.
bogobble, you are not the only one who is honest here. You just choose not to believe anyone else.

It was only a doe! That makes a difference?

Don`t get me wrong, I have made plenty of mistakes of my own. I try not to make the same one twice.

Shooting a deer is not something I take lightly.(I am not saying you do) I try to put the most humane, fastest kill shot in it that I can.

I have been on more long tracking jobs than I can remember, most of them not mine, but a few were. I don`t like them. They are a waste of time, and in most instances were completely preventable. Show a little discipline.

As far as nobody being able to tell you how to shoot a deer......if you don`t want to hear the answer..........don`t ask the question!

You started this one. I gave you instances on another forum. you chose to either ignore them, or not believe them. In either case, thats fine because I know the truth, and so do some others.

One thing every bowhunter learns sooner or later is this...time, time out, the most deadly shot with a stick and string is a double lunger. PERIOD.

Hope your season is a good one! If you get a good buck, post some pics. I`ll do the same.

I agree with you bogobble. There is a time for neck shots. When you are turkey hunting with a shotgun. Never on game with a bow.[:' (]

RE: Neck Shot - Ethical?

i know a local hunter here who called in a big bull elk but the elk would only expose his neck from the brush. It was a good bull and he didn' t want to let him walk so he shot hit the bull in the neck and not a suprise he never found the elk. My heart sank when i heard of this. How inhumane and selfish do you have to be. ya sure it was a big elk and it would have been nice to get him but letting him walk away and living for future hunters to attempt would have been a much more respectable decision. I am aware that an elk is a lot tougher animal than a doe but honestly it doesn' t take a lot af skill to go out and shoot a doe. I would hope that he could hold for maybe 10 minutes longer next time when another doe comes by and offers a broadside shot.

My brother-in-law shot a 4 pointer last weekend and hit it in the neck. The buck was sound asleep with his head partially blocking the vitals. He took the vital shot, hit it in the neck. The buck died in less than five minute and 50 yards. He said crap I must have jerked ( we had a strong wind in open country as well). The neck shot may work but you are doing a little more hoping than one would like to do. Just my take.

I have killed a couple of deer with neck shots, but not intentionally. I dont even think about that shot when I see a deer. However I havent had a trully monster buck within bow range to test me.
I also have never fooled around on my wife and will say right now that I never would. But should Shania Twain come knocking on my door, I might fail the test.;)
