Broken Glasses... Good day.

How about this for a hunting experience.....

I get to my desired hight with my climber this morning and start to get ready for the morning hunt. Well, my glasses fogged up climbing the tree so I took them off my face and hooked them on the collar of my jacket. I pulled up my bow and hung it on the EZ-Hanger, detached my quiver and placed it on the tree, and nocked an arrow. Now it was time to put the final touches on the stand. I hung my fanny pack and went to tighten the tension strap....

This is where it turned crappy. I put my chest on the tree to reach around it to take up the slack. All of the sudden... SNAP! I pushed away from the tree and my glasses fell apart! I didn' t even think about them! Luckily, i was still able to use one of the ear-peices to keep them on my face.

This is where it turns good. 10 minutes after i' m settled, 2 big doe come in and mill around my stand. they stayed in range (30 yds to right under my tree!) for over 1/2 hour. So far, I' ve hunted 4 days and have had deer within range all 4 times out! However, all those have been bald heads, no bone yet....

So, I' m out a nice pair of glasses, but I had yet another good day.

Good luck out there!

Being a meat hunter myself I would have a couple of those does hanging in the garage right now ;)

There is a buck around there somewhere........hope he wanders your way. You can' t go wrong very often if you have deer around your stand consistently. You will get your shot.

Maybe they were all P+Y bucks and you had your glasses on wrong [&:]

atlasman,

I almost fell off my chair here when i read your post! :D That' s got to be it.. Problem is, if the glasses are on wrong, and I' m not seeing those P&Y antlers then I don' t really trust my shooting ability! I mean heck, I might think the near by oak tree is my 20 pin and shoot the neighbors dog!

LOL!

Good luck out there!

Glasses can really be a pain in the rear huh? If you have a tag why not take one of those doe? We have an over abundance of doe here in PA and you will be doing your part to thin them out a bit. They eat pretty good too...:D

Jimimac, unfortunatly I didn' t send in for a tag this year. My wife and I don' t have a use for 2 deer. If I would have gotten a doe tag, yes i would be thinning out the population, but I would feel bad to take a buck that i couldn' t eat.

I understand completely PA. Maybe consider getting a tag next season and donate one of your deer. The deer are plentiful, your thinning the deer herd and feeding someone less fortunate all with one shot. Have a great season.:) Jim

LOL. The more I read stories about glasses, the less I want to wear mine. ;) I just got them this past summer and I' ve found them to be more of a challenge rather than an aid when hunting.
