Which one? :) There are 4. I think A is the biggest by far.

what are you feeding these guys? They most be on the same diet I was before I came back from college?

BarnesX.308 10-10-2014 05:53 AM

The first one lives in a vast area of overgrown clear cuts. I'm assuming he eats browse, blueberries and blackberries. In the areas that aren't cut, the mast is beech and cherry. We have an orchard and a couple fields in turnips and clover, but that guy doesn't ever show up in these places. He's a hermit.

The other 3 have been seen many times in our orchard, turnip and clover field. I assume they also eat a lot of browse in the spring and summer as they have clear cuts around them as well. They also have access to blueberries, blackberries, cherries and beech nuts. Also, in the winter, we put out alfalfa bales for the local deer.

Other than that, they are mountain deer. No agriculture.

I'm sure age helps.

Funny you picked that one. It was the only one that was weighed. And you are pretty close. It was around 300lbs live. Give or take a few.

A and C are both ridiculously big. Would love to crack something like that.

A is still alive and by my buddy's tree stand. A 75 yard clearing in a sea of clear cut. That pic is from last year and he's still alive. I am hunting there tomorrow morning. :)

C: I missed last year. My neighbor shot it a week later. He didn't weigh it. They skin, butcher and eat. They don't care about score or weight. We watched that deer for 4 years and I would love to know the score. When it's back from the taxi, I will measure it. The rack looks small in that pic. I have some better views.
