Bow sights
 

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on a good sight for my bow.

ahh the old what should I buy question..lol get ready for lots of opinions..

Here is mine ..lol

I shoot a very fast flat shooting bow..I shoot one pin out to 40 yards from the ground.. My sight of choice? an "impact archery pendulum sight".. I sight it dead on on the ground at 25yds and anything out to 45yds from a tree I can hold dead on my target.. I don't shoot much past 50yds so this sight suits me fine.. Impact archery sights are made right down the rd. from me in Alpharetta GA.. They make lots of other styles of sights as well..

Sorry, not true. A bow doesn't shoot fast enough to be "flat" from 20-45 yards. That's just nonsense. Unfortunately you can't turn off physics.

I shoot a g5 optix. Don't have any issues with it. I went with a fixed pin because when a deer is coming in I didn't want to have to be adjusting my sight. I have a 5 pin and am good out to 60 yds. 10/20 same pin, 30, 40, 50, 60. Has an option for a light as well if you wanted to add one. As Ojibwa said, you will get lots of opinions. Get out look at some and find something you like and works well with your setup

I like my 3 pin sights. 10/20, 30, 40. I rarely get a shot over 30, anyway. Anything more than 3 pins is cluttered and distracting, to me.

To answer your question I have a 3-pin "decreasing downrange pin" style sight that I have sighted in for 10/20, 30, 40. I try to limit hunting shots to 30 or less.

I don't claim to be a physics expert ..

my bow and arow combo hit about 3" low at 40 from the ground and from a tree I have taken many deer at 40 to 45 by holding dead on with the pendulum unlocked...

pendulums or at least older ones got a bad rap as being noisy, the new ones are not and are very accurate..

BTW .... I shoot every day 365 days a year and have been for 35+ years

So 3" low at 40 would mean you're about 5" high at 20.

No single sight is best for every archer. You don't need to spend over $50 to take down a whitetail at 30 yards, but if you're shooting prairie dogs at 60, you might need to spend a little more. I use a very basic 4-pin fiber optic for deer and I've shot gophers at up to 35 yards. I don't hunt deer past 30 yards, because that's where my skills limit my confidence in a clean shot. But it's nice having a 40 yard pin for practice. Correct peep size is also important. If you can, try a couple different sizes with the sight you choose.
