Turkey season opens here in Ohio on saturday and I was wondering where I should aim at a turkey while shooting my bow? Do I aim at the neck like with a shotgun? or do I aim at the body?

Well a turkey I have heard is the only game animal where a Texas heart shot is a very good shot. I have never killed a turkey so I will leave others to advise you on thier kill zone in detail, however my understanding is the area right below where the wing connects to the body is where you want to shoot.

Not to totally rip on you, but it opens on Sat. and your not really sure what a good shot is? hmmm With that said....I' m sure other guys can give you some help also, but from what I know good shots are 1)Texas hard shot...right up the keester, 2)a bird facing you...shoot right at the base of the neck and 3)a bird broadside...aim a little behind and down a bit from what I call the shoulder. Right where the wing attaches to the body. #1 & #2 might be your best shots, just for the simple fact that on a broadside shot if you miss high or back, you might hit the wing(made of steel) and might deflect your arrow.

I have taken 2 birds with a bow, but both were from treestands while hunting deer. I found that if you can hit them either through the base of the neck or through the back and get your arrow to bury itself in the ground you' ll have a much easier track job.

I too will be hunting from a treestand while deer hunting and my dad and I will take a turkey if it comes under our stand. The reason I asked so late was that we just decided on this a couple of days ago. Thanks for the advice.

Here' s my spring 2003 turkey. I shot him through the base of the wings. He didn' t go very far and bled a lot. Good luck hunting.
