RE: Who likes twin cams?

I did when I owned one, but I now shoot a one cam and really like it. I wouldn't hesitate in shooting a twin cam again though.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

I have a solo (Mathews) and a twin (Merlin). I like them both, but shoot the Mathews a little better. This is likely because my longish draw length (30.5)is marginal for accuracy in the short ata Merlin. I just wanted a short "tree stand" bow.

'00 Hoyt Raider with Command Cams, and '01 MT Sport with Command Cams. I like the dual cams, the feel better than every one came I've drawn so far.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

I've owned 3 solo cam bows. Still have one of 'em. They're okay, but I've never been able to fall in love with a single. The newer ones with the dual track idlers are the best of the bunch, in my opinion. Still prefer a dual though.

I'm really starting to get lathered up to try Hoyt's new version of the Command Cams. The one I shot a couple months ago was about 4" too short for my draw length. I want to know what they will shoot like for real!

My PSE Thunderbolt is a twin cam. Works just fine and shoots great IMO!

Still got some venison left over from the last deer it took down!

Just started looking on at this forum and found a subject that I’m trying to decide on. I’ve heard horror stories about the double cam bows. I’ve heard that the cams will get out of time. Have any of you had to deal with this issue and or any other issues directly related to the 2 cams vs the single cam??

RE: Who likes twin cams?

look at it this way, 2 cam bows have a longer track record than the single cams....they can't be too bad! I like both, and have both.

You want a good twin cam and you like the Darton... look at the Darton Cyclone. Your wrist strap doesn't sound so much like a form problem as it does a draw length problem.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

I love twin cam bows...

Unfortunately the pickings are mighty slim among manufacturers..

PSE doesn't really have any 2 cam bows of note..and the 2 cam bows they do have are low end bows w/6-10 year old technology.

Hoyt has the C-cam bows, but other than the super smooth draw I just can't bring myself to buy any of them these days. They are hard to synch at the shorter module settings by feel(because the wall is not as solid), and are a bit more touchy to out of synch conditions. I prefer the M-cams, which are now discontinued.

Merlin's are very nice. Unfortunately their bows just don't "feel" right to me.

Bowtech has the BK cams, but dropped the more shootable Pro 38 and 40 versions. I really wanted to get a PRO-40 w/ BK cams this year. A BKII option II could still be on the horizon for me though.

HCA has all but buried their Hatchet cam bows, and quality is iffy.

Darton has dropped all their good 2-cam designs as well.

Martin still makes some, but I've not been terribly fond of their more recent designs, especially after a bad incident w/ my Panther MAG.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

I owned a single cam (Martin Jag Fusion) prior to my BK2. These are worlds' apart in terms of draw, shootability, etc. I initially found the BK2 very frustrating - no forgiveness whatsoever. As my form and attention to detail improved so did my shooting. At this time I prefer my 2 cam option. I have no complaints about the Martin, though. The reason I changed was to "see how the other half lived"! I certainly do not have strong feelings, one way or the other, in regards cam options.

Please don't think I'm bashing single cams because they are great for someone who doesn't know alot about tuning bows.

So you are saying that those folks who shoot singlecam bows don't know how to tune 2 cam bows?

That's the biggest bunch of horse**** I've heard here yet...

An insult and a "bashing" If I've ever heard one.

Perhaps some of us have enough tuning knowledge and experience to get more out of singlecams than YOU can.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

You do not know me either NJ. I am a former pro-shop manager who has worked on and sold one thousands of bows, including plenty of dual feed single-idler solocams as my shop was one of the first dealers in the country to carry them in early 1993. PLease do not assume that all those who shoot singlecambows, do not know, or do not care to know about "how to tune a bow". Shops like the one I managed were not only learning as we went along but also teaching the manufacturers like Mathews and Jennings a thing or two about the technolgy with real world feedback.

3D trophies do not determine technical knowledge, only shooting skill.

Likewise w/ big animals..

those arguments are irrelevant to the statement I quoted.

If anything singlecams are WORSE for people who have no technical skill, and have different parameters for them to shoot well compared to a 2 cam design.

Your blanket statement was ignorant in the least, intentionally or not.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

If anything I have found that single cam's like the SQ2 and Q2 take a more technically, and mentally sound shooter, to handle. I figure I would have no problem's with them, but I like dual cam's alot. Ahhh heck, Later on I will probably own a single cam or two, but I like my olympic recurve, and I find for smoothness twins are the way to go to give me the same drawing experience. By the way what the heck does IMO mean??? I see it all the time and don't know what it means. Anyway's I would have to disagree with single cams being for beginners, as they are far less forgiving with creeping among other things, although probably very good for shooting fingers with back tension at the long ATA's with their very solid wall's. That's just a few irrelivent thoughts. Good shooting all.

whackmaster,
i shoot a merlin , i'm constantly impressed with the smoothness of the draw. i shot a solo before and liked it but after much looking around i too decided a twin cam was the right choice for me.

i don't post much but i am on to read 4 or 5 days of the week. i enjoy your posts and i rarely have the urge to post my opinion on anything, i feel every topic gets covered well by other knowledgable archers like yourself on here so i don't bother. but concerning the context of what njbowmen saidarchery knowledge shouldn't matter - it seems to me he never stated his opinion on wheather or not someone who shoots a single can tune a twin or not - he merely said for those people who don't they are a good choice - weather that is true or not isn't the issue - he didn't bash single cam owners. by your definition of what he said , njbowmen would have been bashing himself for the few years he shot a solo and he never said he switched back because of the humiliation of being grouped with unknowledgable archers did he? if you can tune a twin but shoot a single your not even part of the group he is talking about. maybe you can get more out of a single than he can, whats that got to do with anything he said - in the end he really gave the single cam a compliment but said he prefers a two cam. i've seen you on here enough that i think if you reread it you'd agree that you made some negative assumptions when reading his post. i've got other forums and message boards where the assumptions and fighting are bountiful, this is the only board i really like though. people should read 5 times and type once. this is why people lurk, instead of having more fun participating, because of attacks when all they were doing was talking to someone about what they like about twin cam bows.

RE: Who likes twin cams?

Hey whackmaster, I belong to an archery club full of really good shooters. We have several national champs in several classes, and we were just discussing this topic the other day. We all shoot one cam bows for different manufacturers, because that is what the bow companys want us to shoot. Just the other day I asked a group of the better shooters at the club..what was the sweetest shooting 3-d rig that you have ever shot. After a brief discussion, we all agreed that the HCA excalibur was all of our favorite bow. I can remember when HCA first made that bow. Everyone called it a zulu stick...too short to shoot good. We won a ton of 3-d shoots with that little zulu stick, and shooting in the low 590`s in a 600 round @ 300fps is pretty accurate in my book!
I like one cam bows, but I sure like a twin cam, too!

RE: Who likes twin cams?

While I will admit I was quick to anger here and do apologize for it to NJ, the part I quoted in NJ's post was pretty clear:

"Please don't think I'm bashing single cams because they are great for someone who doesn't know alot about tuning bows."

How else would someone take that? To me that reads "If you are shooting a single-cam bow, you probably don't know much about tuning"

JeffB
