Shot a doe, what vital did i hit?
 

I shot a doe this afternoon, 20 yards, broadside, perfect. Unfortunatly doe fever set in and i shot too early, hitting the doe right in front of the shoulder, and tad bit high. It dropped almost instantly flipping around thru the brush and then just layed there. I got down after a while and noticed the doe lating still with its head up, looking around. I stuck another arrow in from behind under the ribs and put it out for good. Anyways, what did my first shot hit, it looked too low.foreward to hit the spine. anyone have the link to the site that shows deer vitals? Ill post a link to a pic of my doe in a second.

The spine comes out fairly low in front of a deers shoulder, that is what you hit.

After skinning her out, did you try to see where the arrow went???

I' d say the spine though.

My guess would be the spine.

You might have split her wind pipe, that will normally make them
flip around like that.

Its a spine shot i did the same thing on my button buck opening night.

wouldnt a spine shot keep her from being able to raise her head up?

i dont think i spine shot it, judging from the anatomy site. I hit too low, and maybe at a somewhat downward angle. I dug around in the hole but couldnt find my broadhead or anything hard really, all internals were intact when i gutted it except where my second shot went thru. heres where i hit the deer..... http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/woo...ot.jpg&.view=t Looks like a maybe got that artery or vein or whatever otherwise i dunno, it did not hit the spine from what i could tell.

Appears shaft could have hit the top of heart and cut the heart and clipped or severed a main " pipeline."

From where your red dot is you just broke her leg and hit foward of the vitals in the brisket and she couldn' t get up to run. So after flopping around a while and not being able to stand up she just laid there until you finished her off.

Have you ever shot a bird in just the wing? It can' t get up and fly can it?
