Went out tonight and stayed until dark seeing several does and a buck to far to shoot at.Whene I crawled out of my stand and walked to the road.Someone hollared " hey" I stopped to look and it was an older man I had met last year in this same area.He asked if I had saw anything and I told him no.This is because when I met him last year he was bragging about all the shots he had been getting at deer but would either miss or gut shot a couple and he told me he wasn' t going to look for them because it was hopeless.
I told him I had a range out to 40 yards and he could practice there if he would like to.He denide my request but I saw him no more last year.
Well tonight the first thing he tells me is thathe took a 65 yard shot at a doe and took off some belly hair but found no blood.[
] I couldnt believe it,I said that that is a very long shot and that I would never attempt a shot like that (hint hint). He said it did not matter he shoots a single 20 yard pin and was comfortable with any distance [X(].Besides ruining more deer than his life is probably worth this is just plain ignorant.I have gotten to where I would like to find his bow laying around and stomp on it a few times but he would probably try to shoot with it any way.
I am at a loss this is public hunting with a bow only.I used to get so pissed when people started talking about not letting anyone hunt this area unless they went thru a shooting test and now I can see why[&o].
Just venting a little and has everybody have to deal wih idiots like this.

I have meet so many " bow-hunters' that don' t have a clue or a care in the world about the sport they are in.
Just hold your head up and do your best.

Some might consider things I say a little upfront, and rude. But I don' t tolerate people like the one your speaking of. To me he has a responsibility as a bow hunter to the game he pursue' s. I would' ve asked him upfront if he practices such shots. If he doesn' t then I' d told him that he has no business attempting to take such a shot. Its your wildlife, as much as its his he' s hurting. Plus its our bowhunting reputation. I have guys at work that won' t practice until only a week or too before season. Then they complain how they aren' t prepared or not shooting confidentally. I simply say well whose fault is that you had all summer to get the dust off the thing. Another co-worker thinks he' s robinhood, and doesn' t need hardly any practice. A few shots the day before it opens is plenty. I admit he has taken some nice deer, but I always told him someday your bad habits will haunt you. Guess what he wounded two deer last yr with his bow. He no longer brags about his accuracy, and he' s been practicing on & off all summer!
Sometimes it pays to be upfront, and make people thing twice!

He probably never saw anything either. Most of the story tellers I' ve run into like that are nothing but compulsive liars. They can' t just say right out front that they never got more than 20 yards from the road, never saw anything that even resembled a deer and yet they will puff up their chest and tell anyone dumb enough to listen to them that they ' stuck a couple but couldn' t find them'
If it weren' t for the image they paint for ALL bowhunters, I' d pity them. The poor wretched losers that they are.
Next time he starts that crap, you simply insist you both go looking for the deer. Don' t let the idiot off the hook until he admits he never took a shot. I got to do that to a pair of buttheads in a Waffle House one morning a few seasons back, in front of a whole bunch of people.

When did it all change, I personally love it when i can get close and not let an arrow loose unless I am sure of my shot. Now it seems as though if you dont shoot a quiver full of arrows on every trip some how it wasn' t a sucess.
Even though we all might not hunt for the same reasons, all of us still have a moral responsibility to the game we persue.
Anymore I think if confronted with one of these idiots I think I will try to persuede them to give up their bow and join peta. After all they are helping their cause more than ours.

The idiot hunting the middle of a short soybean field I described in another thread took a shot of approx 50 yards at a group of deer feeding in the field. He got up about 45 minutes before quitting time to retrieve his arrow. Not only was he the worst hunter I' ve ever seen, his shooting and judgment sucked too.

Here' s your sign!!!!!!!!!!! Idiots with bows are usually identifiable by their actions or words. I wish we could brand them with a big `I' for idiot on their forehead.
