Tree Stand Hunters- How High??????

How high do ya' ll set your tree stands? There seems to be a trade off between getting high enough to get your scent off the ground and getting too high which makes difficult angles when deer get close in. I personally am comfortable at about 24-25 feet up, but wanted to see how everyone else did it.

16' and 22' The tree and the terrain dictate how high
we hang our stands. Rarely do we go over 20' .

I get any where from 14' upto 20' , like two beards, lay of the land and size of tree dictates height for me!

Depends on terrain, cover, and prevailing winds vs. the route deer usually travel.

Anywhere from 18-inches to 20-feet is what I set mine at. I use 20-feet only when cover is thin. Otherwise, 16-feet is the average in the territory I presently hunt. Last season I busted a buck off an 18" high stand.

I don' t like high stands because the shot angle reduces the " kill zone" considerably.

I find 17' to 22' is best for concealment and scent purposes. I strongly feel its good to be high but being higher then you need is a big detritment with shot angles. 12' to 15' give ideal shot angles. When you' re higher, its good to take longer shots ( 20 to 25 yards).

Good Luck!

Some trees don' t let you get very far up. In those cases, cover is often heavy enough so you don' t need to get very high up. I like about 15 to 20 feet on the average. Sometimes I have to sit lower. Not very often do I sit higher than 20 or 21 feet.

I' d say 12-15 feet is my usual. I' ve had deer under me when I was only about 12' off the ground. I usually can' t find a tree where I can get above 15' anyway.

I usually don' t go any less than 20' . Depending on the situation I may go as high as 30-35' . Angle could be a problem depending on the shot distance but if you remember to aim for the exit it will help a lot. Go as high as you feel necessary and comfortable.;)
