Crazy rack

Anyone ever see something like it?

Man, I had one last year in Illinois that would come to my parents backyard that looked almost identical to that. I run a camera back there and we would come in almost every night. He was one goofy looking buck.

I was told that when they get injured they can develop abnormal or stunted growth antlers. I wonder if that is the case since he looks old and the genetics in the area are amazing. I've gotten pics of 1.5 year olds with bigger racks! If you look close he is missing hair on his body, maybe got shot by a hunter? No clue.

He's a deer I'd want out of the herd. It looks like both sides are screwed up so it most likely is genetic, not on injury. If you have the tags and he presents himself, I'd want him out. I think 70 is generous for him but I don't think score matters, it would just be an accomplishment to get him out of the herd.

Wow that is really unique.
I agree with fastetti he needs to be culled. Doesn't matter if its genetics or injury that causes the deformed antlers. The meat should be checked over very carefully before consuming. If it is genetics and he passes this issue on it weakens the herd. If it is caused from injury he will still taste great. Plus you could keep the unique rack. I love getting a buck with a really wicked rack, doesn't matter to me if it is the biggest. |
