My best hunt of the year!

I got home from work about 45 minutes before dark yesterday. I grabbed my bow and my 3 1/2 year old daughter and headed to the woods. We sat in a ground blind, and she was very quite and very still. The perfect little hunter. We didn' t see a thing, but the time we spent together was great. When it was time to go she said," Thanks for taking me hunting. I had fun" . She gave me a big hug and kiss on the cheek. That is what I call a successful hunt! I know one thing though. She won' t be going hunting with any boys when she gets to be a teenager.[&:]

Great Hunt!! I know I remember every hunt I have ever had with my father, and I' m looking forward to making many more memories.

When I was in the Marines and sitting on a ship in the middle of the Mediterranean or the Atlantic, as home sick as could be, I played the memories of those hunts through my mind countless times, always bringing a smile.

Great job, and I hope you have many more also.

WThunter,

I' m envious! I have an 18 month old daughter (my first) that I know is going to be a bow hunter. She brings me a bow magazine each night and we sit in my chair while she points out all the bucks. She' s actually starting to recognize and say the names of the other animals as well!

I CANNOT wait till she' s big enough to get out there with me!! Congratulations and thank you for taking your kid(s) to the woods. The more KIDS and WIFES we ALL can get into the woods and into hunting, the longer all of us will have enough freedom to do what everyone on this board loves - BOWHUNTING!!!!!

My wife was a big time city girl when I met her. She finally broke down and let me get her a bow this summer so she could shoot with me (she is quite the shooter as well). She has decided that she is going to go on her first bow hunt with me tonight. We' ve got 80 acres that is loaded with deer and I' ve got a Double Bull Blind set-up on a real nice, 8-pointers travel route! Hopefully everything goes right tonight and she can find the strength to make the shot (she is not sure YET whether or not she will be able to harvest a deer yet). I am not going to bow hunt until she has had a shot opportunity. I will be holding a video camera. The funny thing is, I may be more excited thinking about the posibility of her harvesting a deer than I am about hunting myself (at least for now-that is)I will post later this week with our results.

WThunter, you are so right, the biggest thrill in the world of hunting is taking/teaching your kids to hunt. My twin 11 year old daughters are well on their way to becoming hunters, they know how to scout, set stands. field dress, skin, and butcher (well they are learning). The smiles on their faces are priceless, something that will live in my heart forever. Enjoy every minute of it, soon they will be hunting on thier own, mine will be hunting next year.

Success is measured by so many things and I have to say that days like you described are amoung the top! I' d trade any animal or hunt I' ve had for what you described.

Both my kids go with me several times a year. Nothing beats it.

I also had a great hunt with my 12 year old son this weekend during the Kansas Youth hunt. We had 2 does come within 20 yards of our blind. A clean shot never was presented, but I will never forget the smile he had on his face for the next 3 hours!! That' s what it' s all about................

WT: Cool story. I' ve been taking my 4 1/2 year old son squirrel hunting for the last two seasons and he loves it. He' s already getting excited to get his first bow for his 5th birthday in March.

Cats and the craddle song ring a bell? It should. Perfect example of spendiing quality time with your sons or daughters before time slips away too fast and they grow up too quickly! Whether it' s hunting or fishing, we should all make sure we include our families.
