I agree that it's 50/50 on this. The good thing is that if it didn't hit the vitals, it's a shot that he should be able to recover fairly well from. He may limp the rest of his life, but it shouldn't hinder him too much.

Fixed or mech broadhead?

Shoulder shots in the thickest part of large bucks shoulder almost never results in a found deer despite some guys claiming they blow right through it.

Shoulder hit if does not make it completely through the shoulder an hit something to cause terminal damage. Deer have the ability to blood clout very fast.
