New to Bow Hunting

I want to start bowhunting this next year for Elk. I have an older style Martin Compound Bow. I got it restrung last year and I have a decent sight on it. It needs just about everything else. Im looking for middle of the road stuff to put on it that will last me a couple of seasons then if I get hooked I will upgrade to a better bow. My question is what is the more important things to put on the bow to get the best results and what brands are the best bang for my buck?

I would suggest a good fall away arrow rest. I have been using a Ripcord for 5 years now. I have no complaints and really like it. You can usually pick one up for less than $100.00 and come with a lifetime warranty. HD.

a quality drop away rest and quality sight/peep/pins...also a good adjustable release. the bow portion and arrow/broadhead combo wont do you any good if you cant aim or have a quality sight/release.

I don't know where these others are coming from but here is what I can tell you..

Use Carbon Fiber arrows.. any brand is fine.
Make sure the bow is tuned and set the way you like.
Use a trigger release.. don't try to use fingers.
Make sure you can shoot and reliably hit the 4 inch center of a 30 to 35 yard target. (Peep sights are almost required)
Make sure the bow is quiet when you draw back.. (no rubs, squeeks or creaking noises).

Other than those things above.. all the fancy stuff is nothing more than candy for those who have to have the latest gizmo whether it helps or not. Waste of money if you ask me.

Don't get caught up in the equipment tech sham... Learning how to hunt is a hundred times more important than making sure you have the latest equipment.

My bow is 10+ years old and everything is obsolete and old school by today's standards (except the arrows).. When I get a shot, I never miss.

gear

i would use trophy ridge if i were you, they also sell very expensive stuff, but i use the trophy ridge revolution fall away rest and a 40$ trophy ridge hitman sight. they make great products for mid range price.

My next sight will be the trophy ridge react ($150) but well worth it.
