would like to try a small food plot...

Does anyone know of a good, reasonalbly priced crop i can plant in mid september in a light, loamy, sandy soil on Long Island? the DEC is stopping the Nuscience(SP) permits the first week or two in sept this year so i can plant one without worrying some fool with a spot light and a shotgun will not ruin it.
Thanks!

I know nothing about NY soil so I can't recommend a product. :p

I would call someone in your local farm bureau or a NY state or local University soil expert and ask them what would thrive in that area.

Try winter rye (the grain, not the grass).

Buck Forage Oats is one of the best late season attractants for deer.
I live in south central PA and planted mine on 8/17 and a week later it's 3" - 4" tall.
They recommend planting the end of August or beginning of September.
You do have to disc them in.

white clover. Can't go wrong with it. And since your in NY throw in some turnips. It will draw went the snow starts to fall. Thats what drew the one to the left.
