Droppings...or lack thereof
 

During my walking and scouting over the past month or so I have seen a lot of tracks and a lot of deer. What I haven' t seen much of is their droppings. Is something eating it? If so, what would eat it? I' m not going into the woods now until opening day on the 5th. I was going to set up along a trail where the most recent activity was. But now, with tracks everywhere and no droppings - I guess I' ll have to decide by the wind direction each day.

In my experience you generally find lots of droppings where deer gather and spend considerable amounts of time. Bedding and feeding areas usually will have a good amount of droppings because that' s where the deer are spending lots of time. I wouldn' t get to excited about the lack of deer poop though. Sounds like you are going to be set up in a travel corridor. If that' s the case, don' t sweat it. I hunt funnel areas all the time and for the most part there isn' t a lot of droppings on the ground. By all means...play the wind though. To me, that is the number one sin bowhunters commit. I agree with the above, but one other thing to add is that with the rainy weather, the droppings can " wash away" faster, than if it was a little drier. I' ve really noticed that when keeping track of the deer in my yard.
