RE: Treestand or ground hunting
90% of the time when bowhunting, I use a stand. There is a lot of movement involved when drawing a bow vs. using a rifle and you have a much greater chance of being detected when on the ground.

RE: Treestand or ground hunting
I mainly hunt from the ground--stillhunting is the way i like to hunt most of the time.I do have good luck in my stands but just can' t sit for real long periods of time.Sometimes i find a downed tree in a place where i have seen deer and have a seat for a few hours then if no deer i move on to the next ambush.

RE: Treestand or ground hunting
I prefer hunting from the ground, more of a challenge being on thier eye level, what a thrill. I will and do hunt from tree stands, but I feel more at home on terra firma! (if I was a squirrel I might hunt differently!)

RE: Treestand or ground hunting
I prefer to hunt from the trees. It' s a little more confining being in one place, but I have alot more confidence in the overall set-up. You are out of the direct line of sight of the deer, and your scent is up off the ground. Being on the ground is definitely more challenging and I hope to take a deer that way some time, but there is a definite advantage to hanging up above. If you want to increase your odds of bagging a nice buck, go with the tree stand.....just be safe and wear some sort of body harness or something.:D

RE: Treestand or ground hunting
I hunt from the ground most of the time. I don' t own a portable treestand and have built only one permant stand on my property. There are not a lot of good trees here in southern Iowa for treestands. But there' s a ton of brushy cover and overgrown fencerows. As was stated before, when hunting from the ground you really have to watch your scent, wind direction, movement, so forth. But the rewards of taking even a doe from 25 or 30 yards away on the ground is worth all the extra trouble!

RE: Treestand or ground hunting
I prefer and love hunting from a tree stand, but this year I' m gonna try some on the ground hunting, knee surgery is keeping me from climbing the trees. Should be interesting.
