Deer hunting superstitions
 

Just for fun, does anyone have any superstitions when it comes to hunting? Lucky shirt, hat, camo thong:D?

I' ve got some old royal blue knee high socks that i have from high school baseball a couple of years ago. I began wearing them last year and it seemed like i saw deer every time i wore them. Well, opening day of bow season i could not find them..did not see nothing. Sunday me and a buddy went..he shot 2 does and i saw a couple. Hunted monday and tuesday without them.did not see anything..wednesday, i wore them and shot the biggest buck of my life. Go figure.

I always start the hunt wih a quick prayer in route to my stand.

Dear Lord, please allow me to return home safley, Amen.

That' s it. If I make it back to camp in the same condition I left, then it was a good hunt for me.

The only thing I can think of is giving my partner a fist shake. But I do have a real " ugly hat" , that I take out on occasion.

I have a cheap blaze orange ball cap that' s frayed after two years of hunting. I bagged two bucks last year and got two new " Big Game Hunter" hats for the hides. Guess which hat I' ll be wearing this fall?[:-]

I carry all of my past licenses with me when I go hunting.

I wear a leather necklace with turkey spurs all on it, its cool! But thast my lucky charm.

I made a necklace with a piece of antler from a buck that I father shot. Now that he is gone it helps me feel close to him while hunting.....

A couple years back, when looking at pictures of deer I had taken, I noticed that more than a couple times, I was wearing a Syarcuse Univeristy Shirt or sweatshirt in the picture. So now.........I almost always try to have a Syracuse shirt on. Kind of Silly- but true.

it will have to be my knife.do not have it, bad luck, always carry it with me for good luck and to gut that big buck.

for rifle season, on opening day its tradition that me and my cousin hunt in the same blind and we each light a cigarette at first light. all started 6 years ago when we did this and spotted a monster buck and a doe while we were lighting them up, bagged em both and now its a tradition...even though I ve quit smoking. For bow season of course we dont do this, we ll think of something Im sure....flaming arrows maybe [>:]

I have two. I never take my knife to the stand with me, probably not a good idea, but im never more than a 5 minute walk from my truck, or i can go to someone i hunt with to use theirs. And I always listen to Fred Bear by the Nuge.

I give my two brothers a high-five and wish them luck before every hunt. I also tape a picture of my wife and daughter on my bow.

congrats GSU , I have a hat that I think I have to wear every time I go hunting. I wore it 6 times last year and killed 6 bucks. So , I guess that it is king of lucky.

What' s really helped me over the years is, I never, ever, go to my stand without a bow or a rifle. Funny, it just seems to help. :D

sometimes while on the way to hunting land I' ll listen to charlie daniels " Devil went down to Georgia" I just remember that from when I was little going to the hunting property its kinda stuck with me

I know it may sound stupid, but I wait till a week or two before the season......Then when I get in one of those really pumped up EXTREME ' hunting moods' I always put a rubber band on my arm to remind me of that mood that I am in. I will leave it there until my first deer of the year is down!! Usually, by then the thing is all dirty and brittle anyway :). Everytime I lose focus of my goal, I will look at it, and remember my mood. Sometimes I' ll even flip myself to help get out of my nice warm cozy bed on those frigid mornings!! Sounds crazy but it really helps....I guess its a mind thing.

This all started a long time ago when I was a kid. I used to get tickled every time i got to order something from the Cabelas book....So one time the day before I went hunting, I opened a box (I forget what was in it) and there was a rubber band there and subconciously I slipped it on my arm. I then forgot about it and went to bed to rest up for the hunt. The very next morning, I harvested my very first deer!!! Every since then I have a weird habbit of doing that:D! Its kinda funny cause 90 percent of all my trophy photos you can see the band on my arm.
