Default Question for guys shooting 270 fps or more

This is new territory for me

Here is my problem........if you wanna call it that

I am absolutely dialed in at 20 yards which of course has me hitting just barely high at 10 yards.........so from 0-20 I am perfect. When I move out to 30 I really don' t have room for another pin unless I stack it right against the bottom of the 20 pin which I don' t want to do. Basically at 30 yards if I put my 20 pin on the top of the vitals(maybe 2" high) I am in the 10 ring all day.

A respectably placed 2nd pin has me perfect at 40 yards........So should I lose the other 3 pins and just shoot a 20 and 40?? I can' t see putting a 30 pin in the space between them because it is just too small a space.

How the heck do you guys shoot?? Seeing how I won' t shoot past 30 yards I really could just have 1 pin and be fine I guess.

My old bow I had pins at 10-20-30 which just doesn' t work on the new Patriot.

Thanks

I' m shooting about 295fps and I still shoot a 20-30-40-50 set-up.
If anything I set my 20 yard pin a tad low (maybe 1/2" ) It' s actually probably more like an exact 18-19 yard pin.
That and the fact that I shoot small tourney sized pins still gives me a nice gap between 20-30 even at those arrow speeds.
I tried shooting 1 pin from Zero-30+ and just never really trusted it. I like precise aiming and have no problem at all with the way I do it.........If I had those big annoying .039pins or bigger and brighter it wouldn' t work, but the way I have it I have it with fine aiming points it' s no problem seeing THROUGH the gap which is very important to me since at ranges between 20-30 or 30-40 I don' t aim with the pin, I aim with the GAP. I look at the point I want to hit between the pins and just aim with the 2 pins bracketing the spot I' m aiming at.
Actually very precise and I can really concentrate on a spot because the pin isn' t blocking it.
With a single 20 yard pin and then a 40 I wouldn' t be able to do this.

My mind and my body is trained to shoot " Gapping" pins and I can do it unconciously and very accurately, so I like the 20-30 pins.

On my favorite compound that throws a 30-3/4" (2315) shaft with a 125 grn head at a respectful 242-245 fps., I use (1) pin out to 40 yards. I register the pin at 25 yards, and raise or lower my POA in accordance with what I have determined when shooting the bow in.

If I were to take a 40-yard shot, and I would have to know that the shot will be good before I would do so, I would need to put [/i]my[/i] pin at shoulder height to hit the kill zone.

I find that raising an lowering my POA is faster than selecting the appropriate pin, which (pin) still might not be appropriate for the estimated distance, and still might require " Kentucky" adjustment.

Being on the wrong pin (sighting) almost cost me a big buck one season. After that close call, I dumped the multi-pin setup and have been with (1) pin since.

At 270 fps (AMO), it should be a walk in the park for you to use (1) pin.

I' m around Matt' s speed. I judge my yardage by how many pins I have in the vitals. The more the merrier.

If your definately not going to shoot over 30.......I think a single pin at 20-25 yrds will work real well for you !! To me.....it also helps a lot in low light situations when you pull up and only are dealing with one pin that you know is the correct one !!

Are you shooting a single-track sight? Most recent ones have two tracks, which keeps the pins from bumping into each other.

Yeah, I was going with BTM' s answer....For faster bows, a sight with two tracks for the pins are necessary or you can' t get them tight enough for 10 yard increments. I shoot my bow around 280+ and up to 310, the pins don' t move as far as gap. Same goes for my Tox....until you drop to 270, the clicks between distances are consistant.

BTW..I use a 20, 30, 40 and 50 yard pin. The 20 and 40 in one track and the 30 and 50 in the other. Makes pin gap allowable.

try a sure-loc lethal weapon sight. it moves the sight out away from the bow so u are aiming at a smaller part of the target. really improved my accuracy. 20-30-40-50......nothing but goodness

I shoot right at 300 and I have been using the two pin method for about 4 years now because of the exact same reason you are having. I set my top pin at about 23-25 yards. this cover me all the way to 30 yards. if it is a close shot i just put the pin right in the armpit and it done. If i' m at 20yds I a little high and 30 a little low, maybe a 4" difference between the two. It' s all dead no matter where you aim in the vitals.

set you top pin for ~25 yards a your second for 40yds. shoot and finds out where they group and pratice.

I really only shoot 1 pin. My sight is such that I can' t remove the bottom 2 pins, but I have them lowered all the way. I sight in at 25yds.
