how high do you put your stands??
 

i build some nice stands, i build decks for a living so people think im crazy but i like to be comfortable! some are 6 foot by 6 foot and i put crazy handrails and tree limbs for cover, but the ? is how high?? i like atleast 20 feet, i quess for scent reasons! what about you??

I use a climber but for bow season I go about 20 ft. For gun I`ll go 25-30.

Our shortest permanent stand is about 16' and the tallest is about 24' . When I use my climber I go anywhere from 25-30' .

I like to go minimum of 20' . I like 25' better but nobody makes a 25' stick ladder.

For me ideal is 18, I' ve gone as low as 14, and as high as 22.

Most of the time I' m using screw-in steps due to the adaptability of my fixed position stands and I wind up between 17 - 20 feet high. With a climber I may be significantly higher if I need to get to canopy cover.

23' seems to be were the canopy of the trees I hunt puts me. I like to be near the branches.
But I don' t like mechanicals at that height. Too much hard bone at the top of the ribcage if it' s a close shot imho.

depends on the canopy, 20 to 25 ft. mostly.gun season if I can 25' to 35' .the higher the better for me,with gun. with a bow about 18 to 20' .

I would say usually anywhere from 15-22' would be my average with any type of stand. It really depends on the tree, the terrain it' s in, and the canopy. I' ve had some stands on the side of a steep hill, where you couldn' t go higher than 12' or you couldn' t see squat. Others I' ve been 25-30' . I personally like around 20' if possible given the situation.

I have a 25 ft rope and I usually climb until I feel my bow come off the ground....this usually puts my feet anywhere from 25 ft or more.....but every situation dictates itself. Depending on foilage(canopy) and thermals I may go higher or stay lower....I will however tend to stay well above 15 ft.

Of course none of these answers says you can' t successfully take deer at lower levels...it' s all about concealment and movement....that' s why ground hunting can and will be successful...for me, hunting high allows me to get away with more movement than normal and I' m not a patient man when I want to draw.;)

I am scared of heights, so I am only about 9' -10' off the ground. I have a 15' ladder stand and I only use 2 of the 3 sections. It seems to work for me, I had 2 doe under me the other day for about 20 min., and they had no idea that I was there.

We used to go 11' to 15" and got busted fairly often. Now we go 17' to 22' and rarely get busted. I definetly feel that height is helping!!

90% of our stands are 16' -22' . Rarely will we get
outside these heights.

For me it depends on the terrain and situation. I' ve killed deer from the ground and from as high as nearly 30 feet. On the average my stands are around 15-25 feet high, but I have placed stands as low as 8 feet out of necessity...and with good results. It all depends on your surroundings and chosen spot.

I am not a big fan of heights, so I go anywhere between 13-16' . I don' t seem have a problem with that height, I shot a nice 9pt last year in a platform stand at 16' . My gorilla stands are usually set at 14-15' .

Average for me is between 15 and 18 feet. I won' t go past 20 mainly because I don' t feel comfortable and the shot angle becomes a little tough.

I like 18' as a minimum. I use a climber and have went much higher.....just depends on the situation.:D

18-22 feet if I can get them in that range on the tree that I want to hunt. I think 18 ft is just about the perfect stand height. I had a Lok on last year that was 36-38 ft but I moved it to a spot that didn' t require it to be that high (the tree was in a hollow between to ridges) I was only about 18 ft above the ridge on each side.

To darn thick to go much higher, and the narly pitch pines I am usually in would require way to much limbing to go any higher.

15 feet, that is plenty high for me to be off the ground. I' m not fond of heights and I' ve not had trouble being spotted at that height.
