Got my first of the season
 

In my tree @ 545 am, say my prays of thanks for a blessed life, then settle in, and listen. 100 yds to left by swamp I see movement. Lose sight of them but there are ripples in water. Wait patiently hear movement then there she is a 110# Mama at 20 yds and approaching on my left @ 640am. She is moving slowly up hill getting closer.. 10 yds I aim and hear the thud. She runs off 20 yds and stands behind brush and I am watching and saying how could I miss so close..Sure enough after about 4 minutes she sits and waits.. 15 minutes pass and she expires.This is my 3rd season with the Bow and my 4th deer. It is pretty exciting @ 40 + years old to take up a new sport and totally enjoy the sights and sounds of early fall hunting. What I like the best is the extreme challenge of it all. Learning to use a climber,when to stand and draw, where to locate your stand etc, etc.
When I got to my deer the shot was a little further back than I would have liked, at the exit hole the intestines were sticking out?? My arrow was covered in bile. It seemed that one lung was shot up. Question can a deer die from a liver shot only?? Thanks GOD BLESS

Hit any party of the liver and the deer will die.

Sounds like a liver hit - with a bit of lung

A liver hit will kill a deer 99.9999% of the time - they can go a long way - so you are lucky she stayed put.

A liver will get them all the time, but depending on what part of it you get will depend on how far/how long it will take. Sometimes just catching an edge will take a VERY long time.

Killed a nice 9pt last year with a shot in the liver. He went about 70 yards and died. Some say a liver shot is more lethal than a lung shot. Don' t know about that, but a deer will definitley die in a short period of time from a liver shot.

Congrats!!!!! all these first of the season post are making it really hard to focus. I' ve still got 8 days til it gets going around here........
