RE: On average how far will buck run after
I only ever shot one through the heart only(no lungs). I did not put a tape to the trail, but I would guesstimate 90-110 yards!
Way quicker through the lungs.

I' ve never had a double lunged hit animal go more than 75 yards.
I too am in agreement with Matt, if the animal isn' t dead within that 100 yard range, a " perfect" double lung probably didn' t happen.

I' ve bow killed 40 plus whitetails over the last 15 years. The ones that were double lung hit ran anywhere from 10 to about 75 yards. I' ve helped track at least 50 other deer. The farthest run on a double lung hit was around 100-125 yards( my memory is a little sketchy, it' s been awhile). But this example was the only one of those that went over about 75 yards.[X(]
I once had a buck go 150 yards shot through both lungs, with a .270, go figure!

In 30 pluss years I have had maybe 6 heart shots and the rest lung shots. I have never had a Deer go over 40 yards. Most of them I saw fall within 20 feet. I always wait atleast 30 Minutes to one hour before going after them. I think if you jump up right away they could spook and God only knows how far they may possiblyu travel.

In my own personal experiance, just going back the last 4 years(I can' t remember much farther),I' ve killed appox. 35 deer with a bow.85% have been a double lung shots and not one went more than 75yds.Most of them went 50yds. or less.If you just catch one lung, thats a whole new ball game.Heart shots,I' ve seen deer run a few hundred yards. It' s the same story, you' ve got to practice, because shot placement is the key...Bob

Every deer is different and acts differently when shot in my experience. I' ve seen them fall in sight and i' ve had them run 100yds or so. I agree that a double lung shot deer rarely runs over 100yds. On the other hand i' ve seen heart shot deer run a long way.
