Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
I know that some bowhunters cannot shoot sitting down. I actually prefer sitting while shooting because my legs get tired if I stand, and I don' t have a place to put my bow when i stand. Well anyways I am getting a climber this weekend and I am most likely going to get a summit. I really like the convience of the bar in front for sit down climbing. I am either going to get the viber w/ the bar or the broadhead stand w/o the bar. I am going to try to stand more this year but sometimes I might get caught sitting down. So my question is how many of you stand up when you see a deer comming and have they ever seen you stand up? If I think i can get away w/ standing up when i see one comming I will probably get the viper. If not then probably the broadhead. Thanks for the help.-Sam

RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
Sam you should be able to stand IF you see them coming from some distance and can wait till the line of sight is blocked;) I practice from stand sitting down too because you never know when that big buck will just materialize right under you:D Sometimes you won' t have a chance to stand but that shouldn' t be a problem. Good luck and like I told you earlier when you get your stand be sure to practice, practice and practice a little more. You need to be quick and quiet with it before you go into your hunting area[8D]:D;)

RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
Sam, When I hunt, I' ll sit for a while and then I' ll stand for a while. When I scout, I try to get an idea of where the deer will be coming from so I know where to keep my main focus. When I see one coming, I' ll try to pick a spot when the deer is approaching that it can' t see me to stand, slowly. I also practice from a sitting position.

RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
last year was my first year bowhunting. i got busted dozens of times trying to stand up prior to drawing/taking a shot. on my last day of the season three deer came by, shot from sitting position and got 2 within a couple minutes ...they didn' t know what was happening.
unless i see them comming from some distance will stay seated from now on without a dought. |
RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
Does anybody know if you can climb a tree that is on an angle with a climber? Also I forgot who said they had an ol' man but can you shoot while sitting with that?

RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
you can climb an angled tree but it is usually uncomfortable unless you are facing away from the curve(like the tree is the back of your seat and you have it in reclined position.) I can shoot sitting down if i absolutly have to but i prefer to stand. You can get away with it if you do it slowly and quietly when the deer are a behind a tree or something.

Sam, I' ve got an Ol Man and yes you can shoot sitting down. Good Luck.

RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
That' s the downfall of the Summit that the Ol" man doesn' t have...you sit high enough that you can shoot while seated except perhaps straight out of the stand...with the Summit line and wrap around bar, the bar is too high when the seat is the right height to shoot while seated and at times, too high to shoot at a deer straight down. This is why I sold the Summit and bought several Ol' man stands.
Little Nuge....I' m programmed when I see movement, I' m immediately on my feet but I hunt high, it' s much easier to move around when deer change their minds and change their patterns. |
RE: Anybody ever have trouble standing up?
I have had to shoot a couple of times while sitting down. Although my Lone Wolf climber has a front bar, its easily adjustable and I can move it down out of the way once I am settled in position at my chosen height. For this reason and being strictly a bowhunter for deer, I will only use a stand with an open front or one with a bar than can be adjusted.
