STAGING AREAS?

How far back will deer have staging areas?I know it is common for them to have an area 40-50yards back off a field but what is the farthest they have a staging area from the food source?I' m asking because i have a couple areas that look like staging areas but they are a few hundred yards off the field--is it a staging area or not?

RE: STAGING AREAS?

If it has plenty of sign and has trails leading to the field than it is a staging area, a lot of times deer will stage where there are acorns or other food sources inside of the woods off a field, they can be as close as 20 yards to as far away as 100-200 yards.

RE: STAGING AREAS?

I agree w/ Taz. Most of the staging areas I' ve seen are w/in 35 yards of the fields. I shot at (but missed) a doe last year in a staging area. It was about an hour before dark and she was one of three that was looking for food. they even hung around for a while, but I couln' t reload my muzzleloader fast/quiet enough before they finally walked off.
