Finally
Well after plent of years and deer I had my sights set high for a big deer with my bow. Plenty of shots at smaller bucks but I wanted to shoot deer with my bow as big as I do with my gun.
I went out at noon today to tie some sticks to a tree to help shield my climber. After I was done with that I went to check on 2 other stands. So about 3 I settled into a stand for the evening sit. A cold north wind reminded me of the distance I had walked and the sweat on my back. 30 minutes before dark I was freezing. But I was not gonna leave. My teeth chattered as I heard a slight grunt to my left. He came across and out of the woods to the north of me. Then down the side of a field straight towards me. Crossed back into the woods15 yards north of me and then I stopped him for about a 12 yard shot. Never found any blood but the arrow went through but he broke it off and as he ran away I saw the back haly sticking out. Ran about 75 yards or so. I thought I heard him pile up but backed out to give him some time. Went back and one of my friends found him first. I was pretty pumped. My best with a bow!
