What kind of Sight?
 

What kind of sight does everyone have? I used to have an Impact Collector and then dad got a Impact Trio and said it was to bright for him and I said I would trade him. I can shoot it fine on the bullseye target but the deer target I can' t hardly see the deer and I hit all over the place. I got a Cosmic also but don' t like the idea of having to change the yardage with the deer in range. I don' t like verticle pins that much either. What would you guys suggest?

I' ve tried all the sight designs currently on the market, vertical, single pin slider etc. and I keep coming back to the tried an true horizontal multi-pin fiber optic.
I' m simply used to it, and this style allows me to gap shoot very accurately the in between yardages.........for 25 yards I simply look at the spot I want to hit on the deer BETWEEN my 20 and 30 pins. You can' t do that with a vertical pin sight and that was my biggest complaint with them.

I don' t much care for the " Super Bright" styles either.......IMO they are a bit of a gimmick. Sure they look bright as heck, and are cool to look at but if they get too bright you end up with pin " Flare" in bright light, and its hard to see thru all that with today' s speed bows and tight pin gaps. Plus in low light, its hard to see past that light and still make out a deer in a normal peep sight, kinda like trying to see the driver of a car with his headlights in your face.

What I prefer, is a 4 pin system........20-30-40-50 (the 50 is there just to help gapping on the 40)
My 30-40-50 pins are all " Tournament" style .019 micro pins. think about it...why on earth would you need a bright pin for a distance that you can' t even see to shoot. If its bright enough to see the target at those ranges then I can see plenty of my pin to hit it. Plus the fine aiming points reduce " Flare" and give me a finer aiming point. I don' t want a lot of the animal covered at 35 yards.

My 20 yard pin is just a tiny bit different........I melted it out with a lighter to just a slightly bigger diameter. It gives me a slightly brighter top pin, but not OVERLY bright. Still a fine aiming point, plenty bright enough to see in any legal shooting light, but a touch brighter which helps prevent pin confusion since that' s the one that sees the most action, and you can see a target at 20 yards and under for later in the evening so a touch brighter pin will help.

My personal choice for models is a Spot-Hogg ' Hogg-it' that I also use for 3D tournaments.........I' ve been looking at this sight picture and drilling X' s all 3D season so why change for the real thing?:)

I' m using the Dead Nuts Hunter from Copper John for the second year now. I really like the sight, although the adjustments could be a little more conveinent.

I almost bought a Spot-Hogg Barebones when I was at Gander Mountain last month.....still thinking about adding one before hunting season ;).

Matt, are the Spot-Hogg sights pretty easy to adjust?

I got so sick of my Copper John Dead Nuts hunter and its crude adjustments that it is now sitting in a box.......I figured, why waste this awesome Spot-Hogg that I loved all 3D season by letting it sit in a bowcase.
So I moved some pin colors around melted out the top pin and its the best move I could have made!

I don' t think the adjustments are easier on the Spot-Hogg VS. the Copper John until you get at least to the " Real Deal" model....and you are talking $100+ for that.
Once you get to the micro adjust models I don' t think there is a sight that can even come close to the ease of adjustment , machining, and quality of the Spot Hogg. That' s just my opinion though.
And when you get to the Hogg-It and Hogg-It Hunter models the adjustment is AWESOME! I have a ton of Archery " Crap" laying around and products come and go, but that Spot-Hogg will wear out before I get rid of it!
I' m going to invest in a " Hogg-It Hunter" model before next 3D season so I can keep one on both bows.

If you are going from a Copper John Hunter to a Bare Bones? Don' t bother. The Spot-Hogg IS a tougher sight, but..........if you want to see the benefits of a Spot-Hogg and its adjustment capabilities it' s gonna cost ya! Twomorrowssupply.com has them as cheap as I' ve seen anywhere and that' s where I picked up my " Hogg-It"

Am useing the Trophy Ridge this year,got my spring turkeys
with it this year hope I am able to do the same for deer season!

What more do you need for hunting?? Quality built and just plain solid.

I won' t shoot at a deer over 20 yards so I really don' t think a $150 sight is necessary.

I took my deer last year with a $20 TRU-GLO...........then I broke a pin on it walking through brush. I decided I wanted a better built tougher sight and settled on the Dead Nuts.

There are so many sights out there that are more then capable to get the job done in a treestand.........more good then bad that' s for sure.

I don' t know about you guys but I don' t go changing my sight a whole lot once you get dialed in before the season so adjustments would have to be nearly impossible to be a problem IMO. 3D seasons and tournament shooters is another story.

I use a Tru-Glo 4 pin horizontal fiber optic sight. I just bought it a couple of months ago. I' ve already had to replace 2 pins but for only $17.00 plus tax at Wally World I' m not complaining. It' s plenty bright enough to shoot out to 30 yards which is my max for deer hunting.

I don' t use sights any more. When I did use sights, my favorite was the Archers Choice Grizzly. I added two pins to it to make a 5-pin sight - 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60. Inexpensive, tough, bright enough without being too bright (I' m in complete agreement with Matt about that), quiet and once it was set it STAYED set.
