eating deer meat

if a fox eats part of the hind quarters will the deer still be ok or should it be trashed

I think it depends on how much meet was afacted... If I felt the meet didn't spoil, then I would just cut off that hind quarter and take the rest.. Temps here have been to warm to think the meet might be ok on a wounded un-gut deer

I agree with Ranger. Fox can carry some nasty stuff. The fronts, neck, and backstraps should be ok (if not spoiled).

Im not eating anything some other critter has chewed on. A $25 tag isnt worth getting worms or some other disease, atleast to me, to each his own I guess.

If the meat has not spoiled just cut out where the critter was a chewin. Give yourself a large margin for error. I have done this with a bear I had to run off once to take back a deer I left overnight in freezing temps. That was 15+ years ago and I am fine.

You would be best served by contacting the CDC about this. I too, have cut out a hind quarter that got chewed on overnight while hanging in cold temps. However, I'm not sure how much risk there is in doing so. Authorities would/should know the risk.

Me too. Does the possibilty of coming into contact with rabies scare you? It would scare the heck out of me.

I don't think I would eat any of it. Not taking that chance.
