My son, home from Army and Afghanistan, shoots his first deer on opening day.

At 7:45 this morning I heard the snap of the crossbow from my stand and I knew my son shot at a dee. I turned to see if I could see it run and I saw it running down the hill about 50 yards behind me. After a few seconds I heard it crash. A few minutes after he shot it he got down, found the arrow, and was yelling for his Dad.(me) He laid the smack sown on this doe. Just because he isn't younger it's not any less exciting. He did everything just like I told him and he said that was a huge rush. Even more than when he was in Afghanistan. I say I have another family member hooked for life. He already can't wait to get back out there and put another one down.

Congrats on your first kill!!

lonewolf1990 09-29-2012 10:50 AM

congrats to your son and please thank him for his service

Sniggle 09-29-2012 11:14 AM

Congrats!

However (assuming he is still in the Army) it is not appropriate for him to wear his uniform while hunting, with his hat backwards, and while unshaven. - LTC, US ARMY Reserves.

Congratulations!!! His service to our country is appreciated, as is your service as a father. Keep teaching em after their grown. I salute you both.

Sniggle, why do you have to bring that up here? Don't you think that should have been a PM? We don't care what he wears, or if his hat is backwards. I have to turn my baseball cap around to shoot too. Hows about a welcome home for the guy, and get out of his arse. I didn't shave while I was on leave either.

Agreed, the man just got back from Afghanistan, served our country, and risked his life, he earned the right to wear his uniform. Let him be.

Also, thank you for your service, furgitter.

Thats right, as much as i disagree with you furgitter, you defended my way of life and i thank you.

I appreciate it guys, buy lets not hi jack this thread. I just didn't want the newly returned vet to feel like we didn't have his back. And I wanted Sniggle to ease up on the regulations a bit. We are here to have fun, swap stories, pick up a trick or two.

Sniggle, my son is OUT of the army. He was honorably discharged. He said he thanks you for your observation and would not have done that if he was still in. With that said I hope you can just appreciate what he did.

ManofTheFall 10-01-2012 07:38 AM

My son said thank you all for supporting him.

furgitter 10-01-2012 08:22 AM

One big thing you miss when you get out of the military is comradery. That feeling has been with me since 1995 when I got out. I want your boy to know that he is amongst buddies who have his six here.

Doughboy2 10-01-2012 08:41 AM

Great job! Could not be happier for anyone else I've heard of. Let the Backstraps begin the slow cook and celebrate a great hunt with a great meal. Welcome home Soldier!
