Default Property maps

I was just curious if any of you use topo maps or aerial photos of your property for scouting and helping determine stand location.

If you do where did you get your maps and do you feel it has helped you?

My family and I have just purchased 125 acres in S. Indiana and I was thinking about getting aerial photos to help me start scouting.

Just like they told you on the Indiana website - Google Earth.

If you don't want to download the program, you can use the web based Google Maps.

Yes. For any new property, I ALWAYS study a map before scouting. I really like using Bing's maps. Very crisp imagery.

Henson, using google maps is a good tool to use for satellite imagery, but I get my topos & terrain maps from Acme Mapper.

You can print your own maps if you use the PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard & then open PaintShop & paste the map image there, you can edit, crop, & print your maps to add to your gear. Some maps I've laminated, others I've had blown up to poster size, which you can do at Kinko's. But all in all I like to have my maps & a pencil or grease marker on me while afield so I can take notes on deer habits, travel corridors, bedding areas, water, etc.

If that isn't for you, you can always order maps from the USGS website for a fee.

Hope this helps.
