Lowering bow from stand
Am I missing something? Have any of you found a good way to lower bow from the stand and keep it off the ground. I suspect I will need to get a soft side case to keep everything off the bow and to keep if from getting snagged on the thorn bushes, but just wondering if I' m the only one with this problem.

RE: Lowering bow from stand
I just throw mine[&:]....Just kiddin....but why do you want to keep it off of the ground?
|
RE: Lowering bow from stand
I see you point about not snaggin it on everything on the ground, getting dirt, twigs and everything else in it...I lower mine to the ground as well off a cord, no other choice when hunting out of a climber...and not wanting to carry excess into the woods....I simply am careful....after all my Hoyt is precious.;)

RE: Lowering bow from stand
First trim the area where you are going to lower the bow. I use a cord like bowdacious does, but I put the loop through the cam, then over my stab. either way works good. Also, lower the bow with the nocks facing up. this way your arrows wont get hung up on any branches and stuff on the way down

RE: Lowering bow from stand
This goes directly to something I' ve been yammering about for several years now... If you aren' t comfortable putting your bow on the ground for a few minutes, or have to worry about getting it snagged in thorn bushes, just how good a selection did you make for a HUNTING rig.

your right, you dont have to baby your rig, but its not all about hurting the bow, its about getting in your stand, and out of your stand as efficiently and quietly as possible. I dont see how struggling to get your bow up and down benefits anything.

RE: Lowering bow from stand
The solution to this problem for me was to climb the tree that I plan on hunting. Put one of those srew in holders into the tree above where I plan on hunting from. I tie my cord to the holder and that way I adjust the lenght of the cord to keep it off the ground. I have not had any problems with the cord while climbing the tree.

RE: Lowering bow from stand
I think everyone has stated they use some type of string, rope, strapper retriever etc and one had the best advice! Trim the area where you intend to raise/lower your bow. One stand I hunt is so thick that I lower mine right at the foot of the ladder. You have to have that area pretty clear anyway to climb in right[8D]

RE: Lowering bow from stand
As many have already stated......buy you a bow rope from Cabelas ro Bass Pro for $6, tie it to you stand and rap the rope around the stand or limb from where you' ll be hunting and make sure that the hook end of the rope is approximately 3-4 feet off the ground. This works great! Going to the stand, you can stap the hook onto your string and let the bow hang. Less noise and you don' t have to worry about anything knocking your bow out of whack.

RE: Lowering bow from stand
I have two straps on the bottom of my climber that I use most often. I just strap the bow to it and up I go. When I come down I just stick the bow into the strap and down I go. works like a charm.
#2. I always use the same small back pack when I go hunting. I have it rigged to strap the bow to it. If I don' t have my climber I will usually just hook the bow to my pack and climb up to my stand. The pack has a strap though the top that I put around the tree and it hangs there with all of my gear. just an idea for ya. |
RE: Lowering bow from stand
I keep my bow off the ground....the chute corte I use to raise/lower my bow is about chest level on the ground..I also tie it to the seat of my stand..so I don' t have to fish around for it in the dark...I sit down, reach behind my right thigh, and there it is...I don' t like my bow on the ground because I don' t want any..dirt, leaves, mud,ect on my bow, arows,ect... One time last year, I raised my bow (from the ground), and while setting up, noticed that all my nocks were full of mud
....I didn' t like that....thought I' d like mud in my cams, rest or sight even less...just cut my cords a little shorter........ |
RE: Lowering bow from stand
I just toss mine to the ground, and when I' m climbing up the tree I just have my buddy toss it up to me from the ground....usually takes two or three times, but I eventually catch it. ;)

RE: Lowering bow from stand
the bottom of the rope is about 5 feet from the ground and there is a clip on the end i just clip to the bowstring

RE: Lowering bow from stand
:DI' d rather have my bow laying on the ground than dangling around. As clumsy as i am I' d snag the rope in the darkness and wrap my bow around the tree[:o]. I always lay mine on the ground run the loop through the cam and over the stabilizer. and as others have said I make sure the area where I lay my bow is clear. Alot of people have a bunch of fragile gizmos on their bows and give no thought to what' s gonna happen getting to and from the stand. [:-]

RE: Lowering bow from stand
If I' m in my climber it' s going to hit the ground eventually. In semi permanent hang on spots I do exactly as Bowdacious. Shorten the line so the bow hangs off the ground.

RE: Lowering bow from stand
I' m with Rob.
I' m careful not to hurt my baby when lowering it to the ground. ;) Just because some of us were dropped on our head when we were born, doesn' t mean we have to treat our bows like that. :D Bows are special. ;) Right, Rob ? [8D] Sag. |
RE: Lowering bow from stand
I had my ' Baby' slip off my hoist rope (still not sure how?) from about 20ft up once...........I think my heart stopped.[:o]:(
I guess it wasn' t that bow' s time yet, because somehow it fell into the top of a sapling, the weight of the bow bent it to the ground acting like a shock absorber, and when it was a few inches off the ground it slipped off as gently as can be!!:D:D I couldn' t believe it! The only bad part was.........I had to climb BACK DOWN to get it.:eek:I just got there for an evening hunt. I hate hoist ropes........I never know what to trust, I can tie knots that won' t slip (but I also will never get them out!), those little clips on the commercial ones make me nervous. Never wild about hauling that puppy up or down. I am using one of those commercial ones right now and keeping my fingers crossed. I might have to get some parachute cord and knot a small locking style clip like the rock climbers use.....(I know the word for it but I' m not even going to attempt to spell that one!:D) |

RE: Lowering bow from stand
Matt, I use the clips for dog chains...several kinds and you can work them with gloves on in real cold weather....:(
Bowdacious, that' s an excellent idea, more so for retrieving dropped items...lol I hate climbing down....you know...I usually create some make shift hook and use my bow rope to play and retrieve the item. You reminded me of that and I' ll be sure to throw some type of hook in the pack...:D |
RE: Lowering bow from stand
I will usuall just use a rope with a rock climbing fastenter and lay the bow on the grond and tote it up and then tote it down. However I kind of like the idea Macdaddy had of attaching the bow to the climber, if you are useing one. If I am paying over $800 for my set up it better be able to handle the elements, if not I did not choose my accesories too well.
Good Luck! |
RE: Lowering bow from stand
Been watching too much bow fishing lately and started to think " hey that would be cool" . Get to your tree and shoot one of those arrows about the height your stand is going to be and lock the reel, when you get up to the arrow then you could just drag your bow up. Then it would be simple to retrive your pack just shoot that arrow through it and reel it to your stand.
On second thought it might be kinda tough on your pack after a while. My bows are a tool i dont abuse them but they are used, and if i never got any wear on them i wouldnt have an excuse to buy a new one every now and then. |
RE: Lowering bow from stand
I use two ways, a rope with the dog chain type clips and a bow sling that lets me sling the bow over my back. Saw the sling on the Outdoor channel, called the 5 in 1 bow sling or something like that. The guy makes them for guns too called the 10 in 1 sling or something like that.

RE: Lowering bow from stand
LMAO
Well I use a cord, rope which ever one I pull out my bag at the time. I would like to not hit the ground, it happens. Now unless I have a personal bow rest that I can drag into the woods and place below me...lol |
