Yeh Yeh.... we know all about the war shield. Most of the Native American braves now own a casino[&:]..... I guess to honor the fallen cowboys? So the war shield depicted the warriors status? That' s what the folks who insist I let big ones grow so they can shoot them want too. They want to show off their status. A mount by any other name is still a mount. Nothing wrong with it of course.... but don' t tell me I' m not ethical if I don' t do it.

I like Wolfens statement:

If you' re going to nail it to a " shed" and not even a barn, let someone else shoot it or let it die of old age.
Its the individual hunter' s decision to mount or not to mount a nice buck. But.....personally I will not shoot a record class buck if I don' t intend on getting it mounted. I can eat a nice doe better anyway.;)

Where are those bull**** flags now?

The suggestion that you should let it walk because you aren' t going to decorate with it is a load of crap. Take the damned thing. You' ve done the scouting and you are doing the hunting. Take the pictures and hang the rack anyplace you want to and tell everyone else to kiss your butt. I have a nice country style house and I' m sure I could find somewhere to hang a nice shoulder mount but I also have 3 kids and with the money I have spent just on hunting supplies, there is no way I would drop the cash for taxidermy. If I get a buck, the antlers will be in my garage near the workbench and sawtable. May years from now when the kids are done with braces and college..../Maybe Again I see some of the same old attitude that drives me crazy. " Well I do it this way....and if you don' t, you are wrong" .

my 2 cents.

Pal, did you not read the entire thread?
Yes I did.I was using your statement to make a point. It was' nt intended to slight you.The point is and was that the decision to mount a deer should have nothing to do with the decision to kill a deer.

Davidmill you are just a natural born killer;)

Davidmil, let' s follow that thought a ways further. If making money off the animal is disrespectful to the hunt, then what of guys like Chuck Adams, Bill Jordan, the Fitzgeralds, et al, who make their living at it? What about every single person that' s ever sold a hunting magazine article/video? What about every single person that' s endorsed a product with a hero shot in the advertising? For that matter, what of the manufacturers that pay for said endorsements and use those photos? What about the dealer that brings in and displays mounts to help draw in customers? Your thought says the entire industry is disrespectful toward the hunt.

And, in that way, I suppose it is.

But I didn' t say anything at all about SELLING parts of the animal I can' t use. There is always the option of GIVING AWAY the parts you can' t, or won' t, use to someone who will. The meat is only part of the whole package. The hide can be tanned and used for all kinds of things. The tendons and other sinews can be sun dried and used by the primitive bowyers for bow backings. Bones, antlers and such can be used for decorations and primitive tools. Hoofs, hide scrapings and cartilage can be boiled down for glue. There are still people that use a lot of animal parts that otherwise wind up as coyote food or wind up in the dump, and more people are taking up primitive archery all the time and need those items because they haven' t gotten them on their own yet.

Sure, someone can make money off all those things, if that' s what they want to do, but it' s no more disrespectful to the hunt than anything else being done by the industry at large. In fact, it' s more respectful in a way, because much more of the animal is being put to use instead of being allowed to simply rot away.

RE: Not having a ' trophy' mounted- Is it Disrespect?

might be the worst disrespect
The key word here is MIGHT. I was just playing the Arthur' s Advocate:D;)[&:][>:] and throwing some more fuel on the fire. If a guy can make a buck, more power to him. I think all the Bill Jordans etc of the world have done a great service to the bowhunters. Even though we like to throw stones and pick them apart from time to time, they mostly give bowhunting a little class and a bit of education for the public. Quite frankly, they' ve done an awful lot for the growth of the industry in the past 20 years. If it was just still the little ole crotchetty fart hanging in a tree with not press and stars, I probably would have had to turn in my bow a decade ago. SO, all I can say is if Bowdacious wants to use my horns to make money...... I want a piece of the action.[:-]
