7 pointer picture. Goofy genitics in the herd.

I have some goofy genitics in the herd I think. I have this seven and a Five where both of their left sides are deformed.

Might be bad genetics. We get some like that around here also, often they straighten out by year 3 or 4. The one thing I did notice was the deer are really loosing their " red coat" and the fall " brown coat" is comming in. My deer look the same, " rough" , in central Minnesota.

Good Luck!

Buzzboy,

Don' t chalk this little guy up with Bad Genetics just yet! He is a very young deer, sporting fairly impressive antlers for a youngster. Let him live or tell your buddies to let him walk this year and see what he turns into next year. Also, a lot of hunters will shoot a deer when they think that it may have a GENETIC problem or messed up racks, when in fact, a lot of the bucks with goofy racks will sometimes have wounds that inhibit the antler growth. It' s hard to tell from my computer, but it looks like there could be something going on with this bucks right leg. If so, that could explain the minimal antler growth on his left side.
A guy killed a 2 1/2 year old buck last year at our ranch that had 4 points on one side (if both sides were symetrical, this buck would have scored in the low 140' s). Instead, he had a 23" spike on the other side. As soon as we went to pick up the hunter, he told us that he was not happy with the buck he had arrowed. We immediately asked him why he shot him? He then started talking about culling our herd for genetic purposes and wanted us to let him continue his quest for a bigger buck. After we recovered the deer, we showed him were the deer had injured his back foot, loaded the animal and sent him packing. The moral of this story is....... if this buck was alive today, he would be 3 - 3 1/2 yrs old and would sport a monster rack. If this little guy makes it thru this years hunting season, he could quite possibly be a nice racked buck next year.

I have to agree there is very possible an injury causing his rack to be deformed. If a deer is injured the deformity will definetly show up on the opposite side of his rack. If it' s possible give him another year and he will be a dandy:D
